Least we need a top 4 d and wing it at forward and give Wilson and smith top 6 minutes all season long and see what happens. Personally I think adding another forward is in order but we shall see.
Fair enough, I think Ellis will be something special though someday.

Forget about huge additional pieces, there's not too much money available right now. The key concern right now is probably the fact this team has no 6th or 7th D under contract [not even Blum]. The forward core isn't shiny but it's defensively responsible, tough, rugged, and competitive.

Ekholm could be very interesting on D as well, there's definitely room for him.

Next offseason, sign Hartnell and bring back Kimmo if we need vet on D. Undo the summer of 07. Get TV to backup PR by trading a pick. Get the band back together.

And then bring back Suter when Leipold realizes he's screwed up again by trying to plug holes with wads of cash?

As long as we're dreaming why not get Parise too.

Guys, we're on a budget, and Weber's bonuses just ate into that.

Only I see the Preds desperately need is a 15 goal scoring wing, and a vet to push Blum in camp. I honestly like the idea of Josi next to Weber.

EDIT: Petr Sykora? yes he's 35 but he scored 21 goals for under 700K for NJ. If was willing to leave the swamp I would have no problem giving him a raise.

(That's if he would be willing to leave NJ.)

"Poile on if he would entertain bringing back Andrei Kostitsyn: "No." He said it wasn't the right fit and it negatively affected Sergei."

Exactly what I was worried about. Good to see he recognizes that.

In other news, seems like Doan is Poile's guy this offseason. I think he'll do whatever it takes to get him.

I think if Doan was younger and looking for a longer deal, he would like it here. But with all the stupid money being thrown around, if he just plays for 2 more years..... I don't think we have the money to match.

I'd like to have him here.

Poile mentioned Doan a lot, so did Trotz. I wouldn't be surprised if he is a Pred next year.

The real question is can we afford a top 4 d man. I wish we could make a trade for Yandle, Jbo, Martin, Enstrom, Fayne, Michalek, Colaiacovo, Hannan, Poti to name a few

It is reassuring to hear management say we have the money.

It'd be cool to see Nashville go out and get Doan and/or Semin. Colaiacovo would be a good fit on the defense core too with maybe a big guy like Jurcina to come in as the 7th defenseman and to push the young guys in camp. If Poile could go out and get one of those forwards and some help on D, it could really push Nashville to being a top team in the league again this year.

Here's Kevin Allen's write-up on Nashville's interest in Doan:

Please Doan. He'd be great in the community too. I'd love to see him retire as a pred, and a productive one at that.

Yeah, except Brett Wilson warned against underestimating the depth of the team's pockets. He also alluded to how money is there to sign more pieces if they are available. Every team is on a budget. Some teams' budgets are public knowledge (the cap ceiling), but the budget of the Preds is a mystery right now.

I didn't think he'd take a pay cut from last year ($6.7). Worst case, he'd bolt to the K.

Yeah... no. Glad we didn't try that. Rather would have doan than semin.

Carolina could be good next year. They will have an exciting top six!

not at 7 million. a 2-3 year term at 6 i thought was fair. i don't get him doing a 1 year deal.

this has to suck for detroit. Suter says no, Parise says no, Weber says no, Semin says no.

with that defence, I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility to finish closer to 15th than to 8th
