Bobby Butler has been placed on waivers - likely for purpose of buyout. #Sens

Konopka's faceoff numbers are going to drastically go down this season (IMO), what with the new faceoff rules restricting the use of your hands. If we'd have kept Konopka, I think we'd be hurting from a loss of faceoff talent just as much as we have by letting him walk, as I just don't think he's going to be able to maintain his high FO win %. Winchester, though, I agree totally: he was a legit faceoff machine, and did it without as much now-illegal hand-work as Konopka used.

Huh. I guess Brucie got it at least half right. I wonder if he gets claimed?

Too many contracts, someone had to take the fall.

I think Calgary or Islanders will pick him up

I don't think this is a precursor to a bigger move, personally

Nice to see team dont make same mistake twice. Last year Filatov development was clearly ruined by too many contracts. Now at list we have spot for Silfverberg.

Don't like giving up on young players this early, but oh well

And here I was going to come in hear and post a sarcastic remark about Butler still being here, I thought I read the deadline for buyouts was yesterday?

Someone out there will give Butler a chance to get back to the NHL.

But even if he does get his career back on track, I'd say his ceiling at this point is Tom Chorske, another American former NCAA star. A streaky 15-20 goal-scorer who can play defense well enough to survive in a limited checking role between streaks.

And why would that be?

Ottawa, assuming Butler is replaced by Silfverberg on the roster, would be roughly $3 000 000 below the Cap floor.

There IS GOING TO BE A TRADE OR A SIGNING. There has to be. I really don't think the Murray's would waive and buy out Butler if there wasn't another contract coming in shortly.

3 mil. extension for Alfie and we rich the floor.

i think there making room for rookies to join the squad with butler gone we have 3 roster spots available. as of right now we have

12 forwards: Spezza, Alfie, 9MM, Latendresse, Niel, Turris, Greening, Regin, Smith, JOB, Condra, Daugavins

6 defenseman: Karlsson. Gonchar, Phillips, Methot, Cowen, Lundin

2 Goalies: Anderson, Bishop

20 players we have room for 3 more. i don't know if we will trade or try to fill from within. but even with that i'm not sure we can hit the floor..... zibby 's cap hit is 1.7 silfverberg is .9 mil but i think were what almost 5 under after loosing butler... hard to say.

nope, that would only be for the year after.

But the new CBA will take care of that problem for us so it's mostly an imagined problem.

Any extension wouldn't count against the cap this year since he still has 1 year left on his current contract.

Bobby Butler can thank Spezza for making him look like an NHL player.

well sometimes your chance is one game and sometimes it's a season and a 1/2. Butler just didn't do all he could with a full nhl season and unlucky for him there is a flood gate of developing forwards to take his place with higher upside.

Bye-bye Bobby Butler. Boom, bust; brought bigtime blasts. Benefitted but briefly bad.

I don't see a heck of a lot more in Butler than Ryan Shannon brought to the table. What potential are you seeing in this guy?

At least a guy like Shannon had a no-quit motor, and came to camp ready to play as though his career hung on every game.

I read rumour somewhere, that current CBA can be lenghtened by 1 year if they dont make agreement on new termes. No one is interested in lock-out.

I remember when Butler was really sought after. What happened? Or was the CBC just full of ****?

I must admit, I have never seen him play, but if I remember correctly, many Sens fans were high on him after his 2010-11 stint with the big club. His numbers are not any worse than those of Condra or Daugavins. Is it that his defensive and/or physical game lacks where the other two excel?

Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight.

Doesn't really have much of a physical game. Very much a triggerman.

butler is a goal scorer and he's not scoring goals. the other 2(Condra and Daugavins) are more bottom six roles Butler is kind of a top 6 player or bust.
