Wherever he ends up signing will end up being great for that team.

Buying low is not an option in my mind. If Semin does not get what he wants (rumoured to be $7M per, but I would expect no less than the $6M per he earned last season), I think he will bolt to the KHL. So, to get Semin you will have to accept a contract that is not a "deal".

He earned $6.7M last season.

If he was going to "bolt to the KHL" he would have done it by now. KHL camps are starting. Semin wants to play in the NHL.

Isn't he apparently holding out for a longer deal? Plus, with a possible lockout, a one or two year deal at $6+ would be scary for both sides.

It's also possible that just because something looks effortless to spectator, it doesn't mean that it actually is for the person doing it.

The whole Doan is better than Semin seems to me as a case of "what have you done lately". In my opinion even streaky Semin is slightly better than Doan (even if I count that physicality that Doan can bring). If he is motivated it's not even close (I'm well aware that finding a way to motivate him was quite a problem so far).
Semin's production alone no longer outweighs his warts. Apparently this is now a league-wide revelation....

Exactly this.

He and his agent probably figure the team that strikes out on: Parise, Doan, Ryan, Weber, Suter, Nash, etc will be more likely to panic and give him a longer term + more money deal.

is it really considered "bolting" even if he left right now? Clearly no team is willing to even give him a minor inflationary raise from last season and no team is willing to commit to him for greater than one year. Sounds like he's being forced out if anything.

So I'd say going home, making more money, and being more appreciated is probably less "bolting" and more common sense.

the more I read about him the more I think his reputaiton is not fully fair. The big thing that sticks out is how Hunter has said he never had a problem, and that Semin worked hard for him to adapt to his system.
Sounds to me like he would be worth taking a 2 year gample on. Even if it comes with a high hit. There are alot of worse players than him signed for more than 5mil. I'd have no problem with him getting 6.

Semin and his agent are in a great position; wait it out then strike it rich. Hell there's a chance that there may be a lockout as well. In that case, go over to the KHL for a year come back and be a marquee free agent once again.

Sounds like he's heading to the Canes one a 1-year for more than he made last year. Good for him?

SovSport report that #Canes will announce the signing of Semin within the next hour. Believed to be a 1y deal with higher $ than last year.

Source?

Cody Nickolet tweeted it's rumoured. This seems likely.

I still want Semin on the Canucks. His offensive abilities are exactly what we need, and I still believe a lot of his "attitude" or "work ethic" problems are only issues because he doesn't defend himself in the media. He's clearly competitive and for 30 goals, plus other opportunities he makes simply taking focus from the defensive team, I'd have no qualms about a short term 6-7 million dollar deal, or a longer term deal below 6.

I don't know how true this is, but it's being parroted that Alex doesn't speak english very well and would prefer to have russian speakers on his team. Any Caps fans want to confirm or deny this for me?

Edit: Seems I've missed the boat. Carolina eh?...Semin-Staal-Staal...frightening. Semin-Staal-Skinner and Jokenin-Staal-Ruutu...well, I hope the SE has fun with that...

My source who is close to Semin on Semin signing w/ @NHLCanes: "It's true." So, Alexander Semin is set to play in Carolina next year.
