Is this the move that vaults the Canes into a playoff spot and takes the Caps out? Would be interesting if it is.

That said, I wanted him on the Sens - especially at 1 year.

Rutherford was kicking the tires on adding Semin to the roster, so it makes sense that he finally pulled the trigger on a deal. Let's see if the Canes can now make the playoffs this year.

Was really hoping the Senators would pull something like this... gets us the 1st line winger we need and brings us over the cap floor... but oh well! Good luck in Carolina.

Kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Canes gain a goal scorer and automatically their Goals Against go down.

and this is going to come back to bite the caps. Watch carolina take the division now.
Their no1 dman is Justin Faulk and the bottom 6 is still below avg so I doubt it. Step in the right direction but they should've signed him at least 2 yrs even fi they were both at 7 M.

Hell of a gamble. Hope it pays off for Carolina. Suddenly they have a really good top 6.

lol
For a one-year deal there is no downside. At this point, there is nothing better (assiming Doan wouldn't sign there) that Carolina could have spent 7 million on.

This is a great signing for Carolina. If he meshes with one of the Staals, I'd expect an extension in January.

Pitkanen and Gleason are both ahead of Faulk at this point

Very surprised by this deal. Love it for the Canes. The one thing I was weary about was that my team would lock him up for many years. I never thought he'd settle for anything less than 4-5 years.

$7M is the price to pay for a one-year term. I don't think it's that much to be honest.

Anybody remember when he tied a game with Carolina with 3 minutes left then won it with a minute left?

At least Cam Ward won't get lit up by him this year.

Ambivalent contradictory signing. High price low term. Doesn't make sense. For this high salary it seems to indicate Carolina acknowledges he is elite. 1 year term means he may not stay long or can bolt next year.

Unfortunately, a lot of it is going to ride on the defense which IMO is weaker than last year. Plus is that there's no Kaberle for the first 1/3rd of the season. Another plus is that hopefully Pitkanen can be healthy and not miss most of the season. Minus is replacing Allen with Corvo.

I wonder why he elected to go to Carolina? No offence implied 'Canes fans

If he was willing to accept a one year contract I'm sure he had other suitors.

Still a lot of cake to pony up on a gamble like Semin. Although if he decides he wants to play hard the Canes will have a dangerous top 6.
