Carolina has the cap space. They needed a top 6 forward that they've lacked for a long time now. After acquiring Jordan Staal might aswell get that winger they need to make that top 6 solid. IMO they owe that to their fans.
Overpay obviously, but who cares when its only for 1 year. It might pay off and then they can lock Semin up for longer if he plays well and likes it in Carolina.
This makes no sense. Doesn't make sense for Carolina. They aren't competing for a cup this year. Doesn't make sense for Semin only being a year. If the only offer he could get was for a year, how did he get $7 mil? I just don't understand. One of the oddest contracts i can remember.
Nice pickup for the Canes. I'm actually going to try and tune into more of their games now. Exciting offseason additions. A 1 year deal is a nice show me term and of little risk if you've got the cap space for 1 year.
There have been a lot of questions about his attitude, which is the primary reason he lasted this long, a lot of GMs were scared. This is kind of a trial offer- full price, but a short term, so if it's a mistake, it's over quickly. JR didn't want to lock the Canes into a bad situation.
Highest paid bongo player ever?
They're going to do some team building stuff at Fort Bragg as part of camp this year, maybe we can get an Army guy to show him how to throw a punch.
Kinda surprised by the posters down on the terms here. It's a great deal. Carolina has zero interest in paying someone gazillions, but artificially lowering the cap hit to 7m, so stop comparing him to other scoring wingers with the same cap hit.
