Carolina has the cap space. They needed a top 6 forward that they've lacked for a long time now. After acquiring Jordan Staal might aswell get that winger they need to make that top 6 solid. IMO they owe that to their fans.

Overpay obviously, but who cares when its only for 1 year. It might pay off and then they can lock Semin up for longer if he plays well and likes it in Carolina.

This is ****ing odd. Is this really the best deal he could fetch? Cant believe he couldnt get multi-years deal.

This makes no sense. Doesn't make sense for Carolina. They aren't competing for a cup this year. Doesn't make sense for Semin only being a year. If the only offer he could get was for a year, how did he get $7 mil? I just don't understand. One of the oddest contracts i can remember.

Great signing by the Canes, keeping the term short is a steal.

The Canes are shaping up to be a pretty dangerous team next season.

Wow, this came out of nowhere! High price for Semin, but not too bad considering its just a 1 year deal. Could be a nice reward for the Canes if Semin plays to his level and stays motivated.

Nice pickup for the Canes. I'm actually going to try and tune into more of their games now. Exciting offseason additions. A 1 year deal is a nice show me term and of little risk if you've got the cap space for 1 year.

I assume he wanted more money now, and not to be locked into a situation he may not like.... not every player wants a 14 year deal

He's going to say "I should have known better" again.

Good signing. I would have welcomed him in Pittsburgh with that deal.

have to admit Carolina would not have been my first prediction for who won the semin sweepstakes...but they paid the money and got (in my opinion) a more offensively gifted player than Parise

Small chuckle at those who said he wouldn't get offered a contract...I can't wait until he turns on his second gear and dominates all season long

Great deal for the Canes, 1 year commitment is nothing and doesnt hamper them one bit. They needed a guy like this on the wing. Carolina could take that division.

They're going to do some team building stuff at Fort Bragg as part of camp this year, maybe we can get an Army guy to show him how to throw a punch.

Crazy. Would be interesting to see what he can do with the Staal brothers, could be a good fit for him.

Kinda surprised by the posters down on the terms here. It's a great deal. Carolina has zero interest in paying someone gazillions, but artificially lowering the cap hit to 7m, so stop comparing him to other scoring wingers with the same cap hit.
