I would be OK with watching Detroit bomb, but it'd be nice to at least have them competitive against us. I like good games against the Wings.

I was a big proponent of A.Semin, but not at that price. Let Carolina have him.

Doan or bust for the forward corps.

Still want to see a D-man brought in ASAP.

Cains top-6:

Semin - Eric - Ruutu
Skinner - Jordan - Jokinen

I'm thinking that's enough to take the SE.

I agree if Howard has a 'meh" season or gets hurt the Wings could be in big trouble...

who have they added this summer other than toots?

Didn't they add like three 3rd/4th liners in like two days?

Detroit will never ever be 15th. I don't know quite how they do it but they can have what looks to be a decrepit team coming in and they'll get the President's Cup. It's just part of their culture to win.

You forget how they were before Yzerman showed up. They were bad. Everything changed when he got there.

I have to say that Columbus will be a LOT better and Detroit, yeah I have Detroit in the 8-9-10 mix. They lost their 2nd pairing d and they didn't replace it.

Nashville is down with Suter

Detroit is down with lack of talent and loss of defensemen.

STL Push
CHi Push

CBJ lot better.

It would not shock me if the standings look like this

STL
NSH
CHI
CBJ
DET

Yes, I am quite serious.

I don't see Detroit missing a beat, but maybe that's just me. They still have lots of money to spend too.

On what? The FA market is tapped and they really don't have much to trade.

I could see some teams solving St Louis next year. What are the chances their goaltending tandem looks nearly as impressive next season as it did last? Team defense will be strong, but I'm hesitant to say their offense will vastly improve. Having McDonald and Steen all season will help, assuming they do.

I agree, though. Nashville and St Louis are likely the two teams fighting it out for first. Chicago will be in the mix, but I think they settle into third. Detroit falling to fifth wouldn't surprise me, but I just think that organization is too stubborn. They'll struggle for sure, and it's possible they miss the playoffs. I just think they have a better chance at ending up in fourth than does Columbus. Columbus might have a better team on the ice, but some monumental changes need to happen for them to start having success.

I'm not gonna sit here and pump Detroit's tires but they'll find a way

I don't foresee a whole lot of change for the Central division next season. STL/CHI/DET/NSH all jumbled together with Columbus a distant 5th.

Jackets are still 5th... the rest is completely up in the air and nothing would surprise me.

I don't know that they are 5th. down the middle they are strong. Their D should be much improved. Their goaltending will be better. they aren't sexy, but they will be better

and BFC, Detroit lost their top pair, not 2nd pair.unless kronwall and white were the top pair last year.

As of right now, I would say Chicago is forst, based soley on their kids in the bottom 6 being better, and a healthy toews and sharp and kane had an off year. I think we are second-third with St. Louis. Their kids will continue to mature, but I don't think halak and elliot do what they did last year. if tarensako and cole have solid years, they could be scary good. I see Detroit slipping. I know it is said every year.

filpula-datsyuk-franzen
cleary-zetterburg-samuellson
abdelkader-helm-tootoo
bertuzzi-emmerton-nyquist

white-kronwall
quincy-smith
ericsson-kindle

that scares no one

in fact I think I would almost rather have Columbus lineup right now:

umberger-anisomov-dubinsky
prospal-johansen-foligno
dorsett-brassard-atkinson
boll-letetsu-mackenzie

johnson-wiz
aucoin-murray
nikitin-tyutin

Agreed. I like Foligno, Dubinsky, and Anisomov's potential.

Minor correction - while JMFJ-Wiz get more advertising and more notice, Tyutin-Nikitin is our actual top pairing.

This is why:

Quote:
The Rangers success came in part from their top pairing of Dan Girardi and Ryan McDonagh handling the league's toughest job far better than a comparable pairing like Calgary's Jay Bouwmeester and Chris Butler. You could make a case for them standing shoulder to shoulder with the league's best top pairings: Shea Weber and Ryan Suter in Nashville, Nicklas Lidstrom and Ian White in Detroit and, strangely enough, Fedor Tyutin and Nikita Nikitin in Columbus.
(Yes, I've been citing this article damn near everywhere, because it's a quick and easy way of demonstrating just how awesome they were together. As for the rest of our blueline... well, our next most frequently played players were AHLers due to injury. )

They said (IIRC) that they are putting the Staals on the same line with Jordan at wing. Skinner will be their 2C

Semin-Eric-Jordan
Ruutu-Skinner-Jokinen

Beats the unholy hell out of our top 6.

Very true. Hitchcock teams don't last long - other teams figure out the quirks in the system or the team rebels and implodes.

Doan is reportedly looking for 4 years/$7.5 per. Whoa. I don't care because we're nowhere near the cap and it's not my money, but....whoa.

7.5 mil for about 20g and about 30a, and a contract that pays him until he's 39. Yikes, not a good buy.

Someone will give it to him though.

It's the term more than anything. I'd do 2 years/$7.5, but 4? That's stout.
