7M for 1 year. Overpayment, but it's for 1 year so who cares?

Carolina's looking like they'll be making a strong push for the playoffs next year. And with Ward's playoff record (6-1 in playoff series), there's no telling what kind of havoc they could make if they get there.

As far as I'm concerned Ward is in the MAF tier of overrated goalies

Why do you say that?

I don't even consider them remotely close in that type of discussion.

Maybe in the regular season, maybe. Still think Ward is definitely better.

But hell no in the playoffs. Ward is something else in the postseason.

I'd take Ward over MAF every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Cam Ward has had 2 season in the playoffs his entire career, in my book 40 games is not nearly enough to say "definitely" better MAF's first 2 playoff runs were just as good and he is still an awful and overrated goalie, their regular season stats are practically identical

Look at the teams they play behind.

And if 40 games isn't enough, then god knows how many it'd take to convince you.

Considering it's a struggle to get people to admit Ward is a top 10 goalie I don't know how anyone can say he's underrated. And yes he is a top 10 goalie, probably top 5, he plays behind one of the most putrid defense's in the NHL. No top pairing defensemen, a collection of low end top 4 and bottom pairing defensemen.

To be honest, he's probably Canada's best goalie. Ahead of Price, Luongo ect.

Woah, Nash is a Ranger? Sather never gets tired of hunting the big names, does he. I like this for New York though. Getting Nash without giving up Stepan or MDZ is solid. Doesn't necessarily have to turn out poorly for Columbus but generally the team getting the best player is the one that will come out on top. And I always thought Nash was a Stars-killer, glad to have him gone and out of a possible new division.

Sather definitely is an ace at trading. I was F5ing Twitter during the breaking news, trying to find out what the 4th piece to that trade was going to be, praying it wasn't MDZ. Then McKenzie tweeted it was Anisimov and I fist pumped so hard.

Dubi and Anisimov are solid pieces, but their development had stagnated and were destined as inconsistent 2nd liners or great 3rd liners. Erixon was probably the most hard to part with, but it's a great haul for a guy like Nash. Hopefully the high cap hit for 6 hears doesn't hurt in the long run.

They've got some pretty good center depth now, Columbus, but they still lack a #1. Don't think Johansen will ever get there. 4 2nd/3rd line centers...

Bobby Mac saying Skinner is getting 6y $5.725 per. Pretty decent comparable for Benn.

That deal buys one UFA year, so it's the equivalent of 5 years for Benn.

I wouldn't be very happy about a deal that makes Benn a UFA at 28... I guess I wouldn't be too upset though if it was under $6m p/a.

Toronto on Getzlaf is already worse than Pittsburgh on Parise.

That Max Pacioretty deal is bordering on an Eriksson-level steal of a contract.

I, for one, am impressed by Bergevin thus far.

Agreed. Their draft and this are good things for that team.

That begin said, it sounded like Patches was willing to take a hometown discount regardless, as long as he got a longer term. I'm sure a positive relationship with Bergevin was paramount to that though, and that he would only take the discount with a GM he trusted.

That's one great contract for both Philly and Hartnell.

Knowing Holmgren, he probably took a hefty pay cut to make sure he's a Flyer for a while.

They're going to regret one of the Voracek, Hartnell, or Simmonds contracts. I think it's a bit odd to lock up 2nd liners for so long, but whatever floats their boat.
