Great signing, really glad to have Stralman back. He was a solid second pairing D nearly all season, and he's a righty. Just need Sauer back and the D will be set.
I'm not jumping up and down . He was serviceable, and stepped up his game in the first of our three playoff rounds. Didn't think he would pull close to $2M, and don't see him as anything more than a 3rd pair depth guy. I also don't see how his game is "transformed under Torts"...maybe from bad to decent?
I guess I'm not on board with all the "Yes! Yes! Amazing! I'm thrilled!" comments after everything that has been done this off-season. You'd think we'd be handed the cup already on the basis of some of our gullible fans.
Everything looks good on paper until you put it to work.

It was actually 100K more than I guessed. We should have collaborated.

He transformed under Torts from a guy that sucked defensively into one that wasn't a liability. He played pretty well for us.
We had a team that was 2 games away from the Cup Finals, and I think most of us feel we improved to some degree. It's exciting. I'm a Mets, Jets and Rangers fan--cynical as they come. Still, it's okay to be optimistic once in a while. Doesn't make us "gullible."
If Stralman is the Stralman of 09-10 and the 2nd half of 11-12 including the playoffs, then it will be a good deal for the Rangers. Stralman will be 26 years old next Wednesday and is a righty. Stralman filed for salary arbitration in the summer of 2010 and signed a 1 year/$1.95M deal to avoid his arbitration hearing. Stralman had 34 points(6 goals and 28 assists)in 09-10. 22 of those points came on the PP.4 goals and 18 assists. Then he regressed in 10-11 and was not qualified by Columbus.
Sometimes it takes a little bit of time with D. At 26 he might be figuring it out in his own end. This is usually when D start to hit their prime seasons. Hopefully he keeps his play up. His offensive capabilities and puck moving ability is needed on the backend.
Stralman exceeded expectations last year, hopefully he keeps it up.
I remember Torts called him out during 24/7 because he wasn't working hard enough, and Stralman took it to heart and turned it around. He's coachable and responsive to criticism, and not every player has those traits (ahem, Wolski).
There is one area that Stralman needs to improve on: stop screening Lundqvist, please!
Terrific signing. Stralman is a useful player. With a healthy Sauer, the Rangers have the best blueline in the league, 1-6.
McD, Staal, Girardi, Sauer, Del Zotto, Stralman . . . that's damn impressive. A versatile group that is above average offensively and elite defensively.
Very happy to have him back, and he knows what Torts expects of him. Also will go through a Torts training camp, let the fun summer continue for the Rangers!
