I dont care what people think about the intangibles that Doan brings there is no way he deserves to be the top paid player on the Sharks.
Doan's "grit","leadership", and "heart" are the most overblown since Lord Toews. I really hope he leaves Phoenix, where he has been praised like a HOFer because he was the best player by default in a franchise that has had nothing, and goes to a big market like New York or Philly on a huge, superstar contract so everyone can see how overrated he is.
While I have always been one of your admirers and had been clamoring from day one to get you in teal, I have begun to sour on the idea of YOU. Take your imaginary deadlines and world tour and shove em up your rear. I do not care where you end up, but now I don't really want it to be in teal if you are gonna be a money grubbin' chicken head about it.
FWIW, I still want Doan on the Sharks. I'm not against handing him quite a generous deal with it too - he is, after all, a UFA. And UFA's get paid.
For years some board members have been clamouring for an addition in free agency that affects the team. Doan absolutely would help this club get closer.

Oh well, I guess I'm in the minority.
So you believe doan is worth more the thornton? Marleau? Heatley? Just to name a few, there is plenty more i can name later, that if doan makes 7.5 will look at that and say i am worth 12 million a year.
Doan scored 50 points and was a -8 last year on one of the best defensive teams in the league.

I think a generous deal for Doan is giving him around 5 million.

I don't believe he'll get $7.5m. That's all. No need to become melodramatic about saying I think he's worth more than Thornton etc (which clearly, I did not.)
I think he'll get paid handsomly but I don't think it will be at that price point if he comes to SJ, not least as DWilson is FOREVER harping on about players buying into the team philosophy about the cap. Doan would be no different.
If he comes at $5.5m or less, I would definitely take him, overpayment or not. Just because there's internet talk about some teams possibly throwing money at him, doesn't mean he's signing with them - it's more likely to indicate their desperation.
I just think the Sharks situation, approach and circumstances might sway his head if he does leave Phoenix after all.
I think he sill will go back to PHX, but if not, I think it's going to come down to the Sharks and Kings if what Doan says about wanting to stay close to PHX is true.
I don't get how the Kings are in the discussion unless its just to drive up the price? He clearly hates half of the roster. He almost punched Brown in the face during handshake alley. Players don't forget about that.

Its close to PHX and he might not forget it but he would certainly put it behind him, they are grown ass men after all.
People are petty, sure, but when it comes to being at the location that brings you the closest to your family, with a team poised to make another cup run, with a pay day that makes your time worth it, there are many, MANY, people who would choose to put that stuff behind them.
Plus, in an exit interview after they were eliminated Doan had nothing but good things to say about the Kings - his biggest gripe that series was with the way the OFFICIALS handled it, ie the 3 slashing penalties he had in the last few games, the knee on knee from Brown, etc.
4.5 is the very most on a 2 year contract. Any more on length and wage i would walk.
It's funny, because if he did sign this deal (which I think he'll end up getting more money and longer term somewhere), this board would still complain....
"OVERPAYMENT! We should have paid 3.5m for 2 years. WTF DW?!"

Shane Doan is a jerk. Even of it was for 3 million I wouldn't want him here. He is taking forever to sign and is asking for way too much money. He clearly doesn't care about winning, only about getting paid.

While our reasoning is different (I get why he's taking so long) we do come to the same conclusion. He's more interested in money. Any team that is willing to pay him $7.5m is going to be crippling themselves long term. For instance, if the Sharks offered him that (god forbid) it would mean a) trading someone and b) reducing our ability to remain competitive after this season.
