Stralman filed for salary arbitration in the summer of 2010 and signed a 1 year/$1.95M deal to avoid his arbitration hearing. Stralman had 34 points(6 goals and 28 assists)in 09-10. 22 of those points came on the PP.4 goals and 18 assists. Then he regressed in 10-11 and was not qualified by Columbus.
I remember reading an article about that. Appearantly he had infection issues all season. IIRC, it had something to do with with his sinuses and required surgery at the end of the season. I remember him being fed up with never feeling healthy but positive abouth the surgery and the prospects of it being a success. The "regression" was more about him never being fit enough to compete at elite level.

Due to him growing up near my "hood" I certainly followed him closely throughout his career. I never had any doubt in my mind about him being a NHL d-man one day. He always had the talent, it seems last season he finally found the environment to make it work. Happy about him being back on one of my favorite teams!

Im thrilled that the Rangers have evolved into a 'destination' team. Seems most players are interested in, or, at least willing to go to the rangers. Players seem to feel the rangers are an organization that develops and supports players.

Love it. Last year we saw him concentrate on the defensive side of his game and he became a solid #5, borderline #4 d-man. On top of that, he is a RD and very mobile. IMO, he is a very nice compliment to Staal who is so rock solid defensively.

Good signing, good terms, let's just hope Sauer is back.

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
MDZ-Sauer

Good deal. Not a gamebreaker, but Stralman is young enough and being in a good situation he might just have some room to grow. And at the very least you have to appreciate the effort/compete level he gives every shift.

I think it is great also, I love his aggressive and offensive play. I was scared we would lose him.

it wont make big headlines but this signing is huge for the team this year

if last season proved anything its the importance of quality defensive depth

welcome back

Definitely better than Eminger, Woywitka or whoever else.

I'll take it.

500k more than I was hoping for, glad he's back though. Most underrated player for us last season by far. Solid playoffs too.

Fayne is making less than he should be. This number is fine for Stralman.

aside from a handful of clunkers, Stralman played a good to very good game on a nightly basis with flashes of being a #3ish defenseman. pair him with staal when sauer gets healthy and he should be totally fine.

my only issue with stralman is how he positions himself defensively when the opposing team is rushing the puck. his awareness is lacking in these types of situations but with work and knowing that hes definitely gonna be with the team, this can be worked on more extensively in camp and in practice.

i dunno....i never had a problem with him playing the rush, he had most of his problems when we were pinned in our zone for long periods of time, cycles seemed to confuse him.

on 3 on 2s he would lose track of the man on the left wing and be picked apart by a pass and the winger would get in behind him far more often than he should have been letting that happen imo. its correctable though i think.

I think he played well for the most part. I prefer him as a bottom 6 but he's passable as a No. 4. Once Torts got his compete level up he did some nice things. Maybe a little cheaper contract might be better but I'll tell you I think he's a better option than Roszival and definitely better than Eminger--who is a gamer.

No problem with him coming back for two years though.
