They're negotiating a multi year contract.

Also, new rumor is that it was Doan who wants 4 years, $7.5 mill per

That would cripple the Rangers and cost them at least one of their stud young players in a few years, if they paid that much

Slats wouldn't dare. Doan's making it clear that there's a fee for tearing him out of PHX. Let a team who's two most important player aren't approaching UFA take a shot with him.

This team has no depth at center. If Richards or Stepan go down with an injury you're talking about Boyle and Halpern as you 2nd and 3rd line centers. Recipe for disaster. Dubi and Artie were great insurance policies because of their versatility. Before them, players like Prospal and Straka provided versatility. The Rangers need to add a center. Arnott may not be the guy but they need someone - unless you're telling me that that someone is already going to be in Conn and ready for a call-up.

I think priority right now is that PP triggerman/Veteran Dman.

I think Sather is leaving the door open for Doan if he wishes to come. But I don't think he is going to be particularly aggressive about acquiring him.

The third line center position probably will be addressed at the trade deadline. I think we will get a long hard look at JT Miller this season.

And if malkin or crosby goes down pitt is screwed. You could pretty much say that about almost any team in the nhl losing their numb 1 or 2 center. That's not something you can plan for. I'm all for adding depth but no matter who we got wouldn't give us anything near either of those 2

Shane Doan wants $30-million over four years if he leaves Phoenix Coyotes, source says. That will scare off more than Detroit Red Wings.
Quote:
There are teams willing to pay Doan $7-million for one year (maybe two) but he'll be 36 by start of season so 4 yrs is scary.
Quote:
All that being said, same source says someone will cough up a four-year deal for Doan in $7-m range.
https://twitter.com/dshoalts

So much for Doan not being about the money and looking for a winning team.

The NHL is a joke. They have all-time high in revenues. Players are getting 14 year contracts like they are giving out candy for Halloween. Management is proposing cuts all over the place and some team will give Doan $30 million. Joke.

A 4 year 7.5 per 35+ contract? Lol. Translation is I'm not wanting to leave without being ridiculously overpaid

that's an awful lot of cash to ask for a guy putting up 20g/60p @ 34. He's a good player, but he's seriously overpricing himself here. I could see a 2yr 6m deal, but no way he should get more than $20m over 4yrs.

Doan is strong, and not injury prone. He would make us extremely dangerous for at least 2 years. After that it's too risky. IDK. i hate to say it, but it's going to have to be a pass i guess. I can see a burned Flyer team giving him this cash or an out of the playoffs MTL team...

If Doan signs a $30m with non playoff/.500 team i would lose alot of respect for him. I thought it was about more than money at this stage of his career....

This is if the cap goes down.. might not. I'm sure Slats knows what he is doing. Stepan and Mcd are going nowhere. If we didn't trade them for a star like Nash, Slats knows he's,got them

What team can survive that? Pittsburgh that might be it, and even now with out Staal you can argue that losing one of Malkin or Crosby would cripple them.

If Stepan and Stall go down, odds are Miller comes up. Also Kreider has played Center in the past, while adding a center is a good idea it is a luxury not a necessity.

We lose Halpern and Drury. Then you have to bring back Stepan, Sauer, McDonagh, and Hagelin.

It takes one stupid team to give Doan $30 million.

Speaking of stupid

Steve Zipay

Quote:
Stralman, who will turn 26 next month, and signed yesterday to avoid arbitration, does indeed have a cap hit of $1.7 million for each of the two years.

But according to capgeek.com, the Swede also received a $200,000 signing bonus for next season, plus his $1.6 mil salary, so he'll collect $1.8 million both years.

In Stralman's favor: He's a righty, and right now slots in behind Dan Girardi on the starboard side. Next on the depth chart? Stu Bickel. So if you don't think the Rangers are still in the hunt for a depth RD, you aren't payin' attention. Kubina? Martinek? Rozy?
http://www.newsday.com/blogs/sports/...-mil-1.3864938

Stralman is getting $200,000 of the $1.6M as a signing bonus. Its not $200,000 plus $1.6M.

http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=188

Is Zipay married to the daughter of the Newsday sports editor?

Zipay wrote Del Zotto will get $2M in his next contract. DZ should fire Mark Guy and Newport Sports if its only $2M.

I'm just curious, how do we only have 4 million dollars in cap space right now? I thought we had close to 12 million

I'm not about to do the math, so I'll just take a guess. Without the summer cushion, we have 4 million? Just guessing.

He must think Richards made $22 million last year.

Think RB figured a rough number for MDZ in that cap projection, so that cap is with MDZ signed. (I think)
