One of my favourite defensemen in the league. Congrats Winnipeg!

I'm guessing it's worth 30M over 5 years

Seriously, I was just going to guess that the hit would be 5.75M. Good for Jets

That's a steal for eating up 5 years of his UFA time and for a player of his caliber

So with Enstrom's contract coming in at 5 x 5.75, please help us armchair GM's negotiate Edler's contract.

Enstrom is probably better offensively but I think it's pretty close, Edler can be a beast in his own zone but Enstrom is probably more consistent and finally Edler is more physical.

I would say that Enstrom has been the more consistently valuable player but that Edler comes in a shinier package which includes potential for a higher ceiling (I have my doubts he will hit it).

So, in terms of contracts, does Edler get more or less?

Sweet! $5.75M per is exactly what I predicted, that's very fair price for Enstrom.

Fair price.......good deal by both sides IMO

Would have preferred 5.5 per year but now I'm splitting hairs lol

Cap hit comparables are:

Lubomir Visnovsky (5.6 million per year)
Andrei Markov (5.75 million per year)
Brent Burns (5.75 million per year)
Brent Seabrook (5.8 million per year)

5.75 is a great deal.

Judging by what Carle got I think it's pretty easy to say Enstrom could have gotten WAY more on the open market.

Plus it's not much more than what Wideman ($5.25M cap hit) and Carle ($5.5M cap hit) recently signed for.

Yep. Perhaps Enstrom and his agent were gun shy about the UFA market under the new CBA, and took the money while it was there.

In real terms, Edler should earn less than Enstrom because Enstrom is the better player in spite of his size and physical play. However, this is a very nice deal for the Jets and it is likely that Edler gets around the same money, if not more.

Anxious to see the terms. 6 years/$5.75M per would be ideal.
Bet you guys thought we didn't notice

Great signing! locked in long term but not crazy term and good value based on some of the comps referenced. Slick offensive defensman that plays very nice defense as well.

Chevy is putting together a very good off season.

Good deal for the Jets, that contract could look real good towards the end.

It is a great deal, but guys tend to take discounts to stay with the same team (as long as they're happy there). It's amazing what kind of value you can get out of stability.

Yeah if he'd had a 50 pt season and played with Bogosian next season instead of Byfuglien then he'd have a solid yr and would've been offered a 7 M cap hit on the market by some team or another so Jets fans should be happy, this is the best move their GM's made so far.

I think he will get more just for the fact that he means a lot to this team now. Our offence on the back end would SUCK without him.
