Unless you can find proof that he is demanding 7 million, then you are just making baseless assumptions about greed.
the report never said that he got offered that. it said he wants that.

Has this been brought up by an actual legitimate source?

No.

With that said, people will continue to dismiss the "Legit Sources" and think people who post 6 trade rumours a day and get one right out of the thousands as "legit". It's sad, really.

Don't want Doan at 7.5 a year for 4 years.

a "report" that came out how long after it was already "reported" a team offered him that contract? Sounds likely speculative reporting basically making an assumption based on a previous report much like many rumor mongers do.

Well, 7.5 a year simply isn't possible with gomez on our roster, and what kinda kool aid is he drinking to think he's worth that much? He's a great veteran piece, but he's still on a 50-60 pts producer and he's 35.

The term I understand, and 4 years is fine, but he's not worth 7.5 now let alone when he's 39. He's gotta tone it down a bit. 4.5 at the most.

Is this really surprising though? Unless a team is really desperate, he knows he won't get that much. Its a part of negotiations. What players seek and what players get are often two different things.

Players and their agents will always shoot high and then work their way down with interested GMs. As far as his age and ability are concerned, he'll be happy to make $5 million a year, especially if he is serious about inking a four year deal.

The problem here is the term more so than the amount. $7.5 million for one year if you happen to have the cap space and money is no problem to anyone. Four years for a hefty over 35 contract is an insane risk.

Most likely, 7.5 is just ridiculous... Specially for a 35 years old vet.

Until Doan confirms it ! It's all BS. It's not TSN that's reporting this, but an insider to a reporter at TSN. Sounds Eklundesque to me.

I agree with you.

WAY to much, both money and years, for Shane Doan.

And I think the world of Shane Doan.

You know what, that is a lot of money no doubt. But if they can make it work, like something front loaded or something AND they can find a way to bury Gomez or whatever I'd do it.

You have to overpay to get them to come here. I have a feeling the Habs are the team rumored to have offered him 7.5.

My only worry is paying a 39-40 year old 7.5. BUT, if we're contenders by then it might be worth it.

At the end of the day it's not my money and I just want to see the best possible players play for the Habs.

I wouldn't mind 7.5 million for a single year. Yes, that is a massive overpayment, but it doesn't hurt this team in any way. Does bring something we lack, though (a legit top 6 player). It's not like financial problems hurt us, fans, in any way unless it's an unmovable long-term Gomez-like contract.

And by the way, would it require this team to send Gomez to the minors to get this deal done?

lol, In 2-3 years that 7.5 is back to Gomez territory. The guy plays a physical style, is on the decline and will be 37 in a pressure filled market that will have idiots thinking he's anti-french. If you really believe this is a match then dunno what to say.

When we acquired gomez he had seasons of 58 and 59 points and has cup and playoffs experience. Now, we're acquiring an older player who had 60 and 50 points for a 35+ contract that can't be buried in minors and this 'might' be worth it? Short memory. It's repeating history. At 2-3 years at 6 per, sure, extra term and money? Pass.

Not to mention, acquired doan and putting gomez in minors is essentially paying 10 mil for gomez and say 20 mil(front loaded) all in 2 years for one 50-60 point winger. lol What type of owner would approve that?

Absolutely out of the question. This is exactly the type of move that made the Habs what they are today. STAY AWAY.

Even at 5 mill, I would say no. Stick with what you have, if it works out then Doan would not have been much of an upgrade anyway; if it does not then at least we will be trying to get a blue-chipper in the draft instead of going mid-range with Doan.
