The problem I have with Markov is that unlike Koivu, he never really elevated his game to another level in the playoffs. His level of play in the post-season has been quite average.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Plekanec is another player who has struggled in the playoffs.
Saku. No player in my generation compares to the emotion he induced. He made me proud to be a Habs fan through a long period of mediocrity.
Koivu stands among the Habs greats in terms of points and as a person it's hard to imagine a better captain in this day and age.
It's 100% between Koivu and Markov, anyone saying Theodore or Kovalev are not looking at the decade as a whole. Markov is probably the correct answer, I think you could say he was one of the better players in the league, but I wouldn't trade Koviu for any other Habs in the 2000s
Koivu was never considered a top 5 centerman in the league.
Theodore was considered a top 5 for a very small stint.
Kovalev was considered a top 10 winger for 1 year.
Markov, on the other side, was considered a top 3 dman for 5-6 years. /THREAD.
Being a Habs fan since the late 1960's I really don't think that any player since 2000 was "great". Sure there have been spurts where someone had a 2-3 good years but absolutely no one has been great for any length of time.
Get a kick out of you young guys moaning and wailing about how great Saku was, having seen Beliveau, Richard , Cournoyer, Gainey etc, I don't think he was so great. Maybe the best we had in the past 15 years, but great, not a chance. He doesn't compare to the real greats this team has had.

Different era.
I'm pretty sure Crosby would have all the records if he played in the 60's/70's

top 3 by Montreal fans only. He's been very good, but also injury prone. I think he's finished 6th, 6th and 7th in Norris Trophy voting. (not 100% sure)

Exactly what I've been saying but people routinely mistake critical assessment with blind hatred.

yeah ********, he was considered top 3 by majority on this very board and top 10 at LEAST for a bunch of years before that... I've followed markov's entire career as a hab since he was considered a nobody and have been reading this board anonymousely since Hull scored his controversial goal to win the Cup in 99. Markov was legit to everyone, it's not a case of mtl fans only.

Norris trophy voting don't mean nothing. Erik Karlsson won this year, that's how ridiculous it's been.
Markov was a #1 d on any team in the NHL except Boston, the ducks and the wings. That makes him a clear cut #4-5 depending on where you'd rank Pronger. Injury prone did not happen until 09.

Pretty sure you've used the latter one or two times too
