Forward to the past! Veilleux has hands of stone, but he is good at some things. Teams need role players. Veilleux knows how to play a role at max throttle. IMO people shouldn't write him off so quick.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing - when does the next poll open? Or is that classified information? Inquiring minds would like to know...

Probably tomorrow.

I will let Gopher make the thread since he seems to know best for that kind of thing.

Can't wait for Zucker to obliterate the next poll. Getting tired of voting for him. Don't like that I didn't get a chance to vote for Johan since I like him a lot.

I think Zucker is going to win next but I have two players who I think should go before him - Bulmer and Hackett. But I'm just one vote among many.

Based on how this poll is going, Zucker is an insta-win for #6, like you said. Voting for Bulmer or Hackett next round is like voting for Nader.

Not neccesarily... Larsson came in 3rd in the previous poll... but ran away with this one.

I'm going to wait with my vote for a bit, I think. See which way the wind is blowing.

While it's possible that Kuemper's better stats means he did better than Hackett, there's a number of reasons why we can't say one was better than the other. I mean, by that logic Joe Fallon was Houston's best goalie (2.05 0.928). But Kuemper only had 19 games to Hackett's 44 which is a small sample size. It's impossible to say at a high level whether the quality of competition was the same between the two. The quality of the team in front of them wasn't exactly consistent either. Hackett was the starter for that stretch where we had to sign Fredheim just to put a defenseman on the ice. There's just too many factors to use their stats in a meaningful way to say one is better than the other.

Kuemper could be the better goalie in the long run, but the organization clearly believe that Hackett is closer than Kuemper. Considering Hackett's NHL stint, I don't know how anyone could rank Kuemper ahead of him except based upon actual, specific play concerns (i.e. think Kuemper's rebound control is better, or his puckhandling, etc).
And Hackett's stint in the NHL was a small sample size as well. Also, I never said he was a better goalie than Hackett solely because of his stats. When looking at a prospect, it's important to take every aspect of their game into account. As a 6' 4" goaltender who has thrived at every level he has played, he should be getting more love. Isn't that the basis on which people are voting for Larsson? (I know, goalies are harder to project). Regardless, I think it's great that we have such a talented goaltender that probably won't make our top-10!

Well, Kuemper is good too, maybe even better? It's so tough to tell that such a statement is moot. For all we know, Stephen Michalek might be the most talented goaltender of the bunch. I just think that (in projecting a prospect's value) it's more important than simply looking at what they have done for us lately.

Nonetheless, thanks for the opinions, boys! Nice little debate to wind down the evening.

Damnit, I knew when I went on squidz side i would get some slack

No but really, yep, all you can do is "estimate" and guess how good the prospects will become, we won't know until after they're done playing.

It's really not "what have you done for me lately" as Hackett has performed the same for a long time. These are his stats since being drafted:

Quote:
Season Team Lge GP Min GA EN SO GAA W L T Svs Pct
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2009-10 Plymouth Whalers OHL 56 3165 138 7 4 2.62 33 18 3 1710 0.925
2010-11 Houston Aeros AHL 45 2552 101 7 2 2.37 23 16 4 1106 0.916
2011-12 Minnesota Wild NHL 12 556 22 3 0 2.38 3 6 0 260 0.921
2011-12 Houston Aeros AHL 44 2546 101 4 1 2.38 20 17 6 1116 0.917
Kuemper's been a lot more up and down over the same time period. He's only 2" taller than Hackett as well. I know that "big" goalies are hip right now, but look at who has actually won the cup:

2012 - Quick - 6'1"
2011 - Thomas - 5'11"
2010 - Niemi - 6'2"
2009 - Fleury - 6'1"
2008 - Osgood - 5'10"
2007 - Giguere - 6'1"
2006 - Ward - 6'1"

Seven cup winning goalies, 4 are 6'1" and none are taller than 6'2" (all from hockeydb, so any errors are theirs). How about Vezina winners?

2012 - Lundqvist - 6'1"
2011 - Thomas - 5'11"
2010 - Miller - 6'2"
2009 - Thomas - 5'11"
2008 - Brodeur - 6'2"
2007 - Brodeur - 6'2"
2006 - Kiprusoff - 6'2"

Similar story except mostly 6'2" instead of 6'1" for the 4-peat. For every great "tall" goalie (is it really just Luongo and Rinne?) there's two who are average height. Unlike many skating roles, I don't think it can be said that being 2" taller raises Kuemper's stock over Hackett's.
