He has pretty much the same tools as Burnitz did. Potential to have a 40 HR season in his peak year(s), but doesn't provide much else other than power.
I think Viciedo's peak is going to be way below 40 home runs, that's elite power. He's probably going to barely get 20 this season.

because he hit a bunch in may, and now mays over so he'll only get like 3-4 the last 65 games of the season.

Except that's not how the real world works. In fact, he's only had 4 or more home runs in one month all season. In almost 170 plate appearances in June and July, he has 5 home runs total.
In June he was only 1 shy of 4. He has 2 in June, but they've only played 9 home games and at home is where he will hit the majority of his homers.
He's a streaky hitter, so whether he has a big one left in him or not remains to be seen, but I have a hard time seeing him not hitting at least 7-8 more.

They're still a legit contender. I don't think they're WS quality with their SP, especially with Lester being awful, but they're close. 5 games out of WC with missing huge chunks from Crawford and Ellsbury, even Pedroia and Ortiz have missed time. Oh, and Bailey hasn't thrown a pitch either.
I'm not really sure yet, to your original question. Remember, Hoyer is the GM and Theo is the president. I love what he did with the farm in Boston, and if he can do that here, I think I'll be very satisfied overall. Lots of homegrown talent, and stars there.

Absolutely, I'm not saying he isn't, and agree that he will be part of those decisions. Just saying he isn't the only voice in regards to making major decisions on acquisitions and such.
Which signings? Crawford signing was brutal. A speedster at that age should have never gotten that many years. That's the only one I can think off off memory that was notably bad at the time.
What I read is that Lucchino had a lot to do with that too. Sort of the Yankee push.

but keep in mind, its easier to build a farm system when you never have to trade picks/prospects for players because there's no expectations and always have decent first round picks because your team isn't very good.
Completely forgot about him, and yeah, at the time I didn't like it either. The two years before they signed him he was OK, nothing great, but solid... but also had some injury issues and didn't throw 200 innings either year.
