Can't believe so many people are picking the Canucks to win the West again. They probably don't realize they'll be without their second-line centre Kesler for a while.

Also lost there 4th highest scoring forward and there second leading minute eater in Kuba. All this while sneaking in at 8th, a betting man would probably put them between 13th and 7th with no guarantees. Latendress, Stone, Regin, Zibanejad and Silfverberg are all wild cards if 2 break out then they look good if not yikes... If everything works out then they probably sneak in again but how often does that happen.
Think Boston will take a step back this year with Thomas gone/suspended. Toronto is in flux/turmoil, Buffalo has big question marks as well. That leaves Montreal in our division and they're going to be better, but how much? Alfredsson will be back, one of Silfverberg/Zib/etc will fill the scoring holes, Anderson is good as always...Karlsson may regress a little but how much?

we can with the Northeast. I'd be shocked if we finished 10th to 12th in the East.

2012-2013 Standings

Pittsburgh (After they find their top 4 defenseman they'll be very hard to beat)
Carolina (Love their offense, and Cam Ward can be a beast)
Buffalo (Inexperience up the middle but Grigorenko wins the Calder)
NY Rangers (Good team and 2nd in points behind Pittsburgh)
Boston (Takes a while for the team and Tuukka to get into a groove but they find it eventually)
Tampa Bay (Expect a big year out of their surprise defense)
NY Islanders (Just a gut feeling it's their time to finally step up)
Ottawa (If Alfredsson doens't come back I'd move them down a couple spots and move Washington in)
Washington (Adjustment period and OV is traded mid season! haha)
Philadelphia (Possibly the worst defense in the conference, 2nd offense but 15th in GA)
Montreal (Lynch pin is Andrei Markov, if he returns to form they compete for the division. I have a feeling he won't be the 50 point horse they need him to be)
Toronto (Burke is gone at Christmas breaking his self imposed NMC during the holidays!)
New Jersey (Brodeur shows his age, and the offense struggles.)
Winnipeg (The high of moving to Winnipeg is worn off and they struggle offensively)
Florida (Had to put them somewhere and this felt normal, probably aren't this bad)
Yes, please.
I don't have that much confidence in this team, but years of being a Buffalo sports fan tells you to always expect things to be terrible or you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Exact same situation as last season. Kesler was supposed to be out until mid-late Novemeber, came back in late October instead. He wasn't himself even until the New Year, still won the Prez.

The biggest thing working against the Canucks for 3 in a row is probably that if they trade Luongo, the nights that the starters rests won't be nearly as high % of wins as with Schneider playing his 25 games.

Lol, there is no chance that Montreal finish at the bottom in the East again. Mark my words.

Elias hasn't had a problem so far so I can't see a reason why he's all of a sudden regress. Who really knows about Yayo and Tedenby.

My point is... once again year after year 80% pick the Devils to be horrible, for everyone to just flat out suck, and for them to miss the playoffs.

Why keep predicting all this just based on what ifs?
New Jersey are not making playoffs this year, get over it.

Then who will? I hate fans who think everyone else is just out to get their team. There just aren't any other teams I say coming in last. Though obviously, anything can happen. Hell, maybe they'll win the Presidents Trophy. Who knows. That's why we call them predictions.

In the forward corps? Almost nobody in the West. Maybe Phoenix.

On the blueline? Half the Central Division, just to start.

No, but in Montreal's case, it's pretty ridiculous to think the team will be THAT bad again. A LOT went wrong for Montreal to finish that low. The odds of it all happening again are slim to none.

1. Aside from Patches-DD-Cole line, entire team underperformed.

2. Coaching was a disaster, from the product on the ice to the way Gauthier handled it, i.e. firing Pearn right before a game, Martin on a game day, defending Cunneyworth and then later admitting he'd rather have a French coach.

3. Team's arguably best pure scorer was traded in-game, for a return that has so far yielded nothing but a long-term contract.

4. Near 450 man games lost to injury.

5. Scott Gomez

Now tell me, the odds of this gong show repeating itself in 12-13 are.....how good again?

LOL, I've said this one too many times to know better. The 6-8 seeds in the East will be a dog-fight.

Just going to take a shot in the dark here but this thread is beyond pointless anyway.

1. Pitt
2. Bos
3. WSH
4. NYR
5. CAR (love Jamie McBain, kids about to explode this season)
6. OTT
7. PHI
8. 5 way tie between: NJ, TB, BUF, FLA and MTL.

I cant vote against NJ because they always find a way to get it done. ****ing Lou man.
OTT is going to be a ***** to play against and I see the NE division beating the **** out of each other. MTL will undoubtedly bounce back with their players returning from injury and an explosion from the big 3 of Maxpac PK and Carey.

The "least" is going to be SIGNIFICANTLY better and deeper than the West this season.

I could see 4 SE teams making it in. CAR, TB, WSH, FLA.

That's if OV roars back in the second half.

If 4 teams make it in the SE, then that leaves a max of 3 making it in the ATL, and even that's assuming only 1 makes it in the NE. Neither situation is likely.

Locks: Bruins, Rangers, Flyers, Penguins
Very Likely: Capitals
Likely: Hurricanes, Sabres

Pretty much every other team besides the Islanders have a shot at 8th. Gun to my head, I'd say the Jets.

Its both heartwarming and nerve-racking to see many select the NYR to take the top seed in the East.

The team will have a ton of pressure on the team, no doubt.

This could be the season that defines Torts tenure in NY.

I don't follow the East as closely as I do the West, so feel free to tell me where you think I messed up

Western Conference
1. Vancouver Canucks
2. Los Angeles Kings
3. St. Louis Blues
4. Minnesota Wild
5. San Jose Sharks
6. Detroit Red Wings
7. Chicago Blackhawks
8. Anaheim Ducks

15. Calgary Flames

The West is still tough for me to determine, I feel I did all right. Nashville did keep Weber, but this might be the year they fall out with most of the West improving. Phoenix falls into that as well I feel, with losing Whitney and especially if they lose Doan. I could see Minnesota moving down to about 7th, but I do see them making it. Let's just say having them at 4th is wishful thinking . I will say Dallas improved, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them make it over the Ducks. But I do like the Ducks defense on paper, and I think a full camp and year with Boudreau will help out the offense.

I am open to see everybody's comments on what they think.
