He is not a number one d -man. He is a horrible team mate and we made him captain..... Burke is to blame...in his haste to put a face on the franchise he put the "C" on Dion.....

Dion never makes a mistake....just ask him....he blames others all the time!
Yeah that 3.5 million 4th line centre is really helping them more than Phaneuf ever did.

I'm talking about him as a person, he is not a well liked person....he constantly throws his team mates under the bus...

I can not wait for the games against the Flyers this year......it will get ugly!

If Dion was UFA this summer he'd have signed a larger deal than Suter.

6.5 isn't looking bad right now, but if he takes 6 for a Chara like contract, I would like to keep Dion.

He will look better when he gets some insulated mins. Good start to year and tired visably near the end.

Phaneuf:
Goals - 12 (9th)
Assists - 32 (18th)
Points - 44 (12th)
TOI/G - 25:17 (10th)
Shift/G - 31.4 (2nd in the league)
Hits - 214 (7th)
BkS - 157 (55th)
MsS - 91 (9th with many notable names with more missed shots such as Weber and Karlsson)
GvA - 76 (5th with names such as Carlson, Karlsson and Subban with more)
TkA - 30 (T-28th)

Best/Next Best on Leafs:
Goals - Gardiner - 7 (T-34th)
Assists - Gardiner - 23 (T-42nd)
Points - Gardiner - 30 (T-41st)
TOI/G - Gunnarsson - 21:42 (69th)
Shift/G - Gunnarsson - 29.6 (T-7th)
Hits - Schenn - 270 (1st)
- Gunnarsson - 114 (T-59th)
BkS - Gunnarsson - 122 (T-52nd)
MsS - Gardiner - 55 (T-47th)
GvA - Gardiner - 73 (8th)
TkA - Gardiner - 34 (T-17th)

Phaneuf is among the top in the league in many categories and then the leafs in general don't have anyone close in others. Phaneuf is good and his best days (point wise anyways) came in Calgary when there was other good defensemen with him and he wasn't relied on as much. Who knows what Phaneuf may be capable of in a few years with Gardiner/Rielly developing more and being able to take some of the heat off of him.

I'm not going to bash him, as he's been quite good, and really what was needed when the trade happened.

I do think that when the time comes, the Leafs will have better
options/numbers situation, and will not re-up him.

Not quite, but I'd like to know how many Nashville games these scoffers have watched. I swear, D get the worst treatment in this city because people think other teams D don't get beat or give away the puck.

We do tend to chase D men out of town no matter how good they are.

Agreed and it will be well deserved. For those who think he will take a paycut think again, nor should he have to. Dion plays top minutes and always against the other teams best players and will continue to produce 40-50 pts, is Captain of the Leafs and despite what a few Burke haters on here think, is a respected voice in the locker room, my in the know guys told me so (see how stupid that sounds guys?)

Isn't it just a little dumb to even try to predict his next contract when we have no idea what the next CBA is going to look like?

Totally.

I think we should close the thread and worry about whether or not we can sign Kessel in 2 years.

4.5m cap-hit... If Burke is still on the job, starts free-basing cocaine, and offers him a 12 year retirement contract.

Fair enough. Burke seems to like limiting contracts to 5 years so I assume Phaneuf would get that length. And instead of guessing a dollar amount I will say his cap hit will be about 9-10% of the salary cap.

Maybe Dion should stop treating his own team mates like garbage and tossing them under the bus.....he reaps what he sows.

BUT, just because Wideman was awarded a "bad" contract, that does not mean the Leafs have to follow suit.
I do believe that Mr. Garrison just got more, for getting less points, in just one year.

I would prefer 5 yeas at 5.5, but I don`t see him getting less than his current rate. 5 years, 35 mil.

Do you always comment without wondering and doing a little research.

He is always about himself.....look at interviews that he gives and look at the tape and tell me what you see?

He failed to attend a dinner in Sundin's honour and that pissed off a lot of ex Leafs/ captains! Here is a reporters view of Dion as well as a interview so that you can see.
