For Backlund It'd take Hagelin and a Conditional 2nd.

Add some picks from us if you want.
We aren't adding to Hagelin to get a lesser player.

And who is "we", OP? I'm certainly fine with a guy who was our 3rd line center last year...you know, when we finished 1st? Torts is obviously fine with him there, too.

The Rangers just signed Pyatt.

When was the last time a player signed as a UFA was traded in the same offseason?

Stajan is soft and isn't good defensively. He has no place on the Rangers with Torts.

Boyle does a lot for the Rangers. He's very good defensively for a forward. We just came 2 wins away from the SCF with him as 3c and that was without Nash. I don't see any of these besides ROR obviously as a clear upgrade

There's nothing wrong with Boyle at 3C. He's big, very good defensively, and capable of potting 15.

i do agree stajan would be a bad choice but he is solid defensively and can win faceoffs, his cap hit is too much but i think the rangers should solve the issue (if there is one) internally

Boyle's role is a shut down type checking center, Torts will not use him in a goalscoring role as he typically leans on 3 lines instead of 4. Boyle eats a bunch of really tough minutes and is a leader on the PK, plus like was said he is good for about 15 goals. There is no need to acquire a 3rd line center.

The paranoid, rabidly anti-Boyle bloc of our fanbase really needs to pipe down. He's a perfectly good third line center and will likely be our fourth line center in a season or a half when Miller is ready.

2012 1st round playoffs boyle is fine in that spot.

boyle the rest of the year isnt, for a 'contender'. I dont think those paranoid rabidly anti-Boyle bloc members are that off base.

Boyle is fine, but not ideal at 3C.

I think the concern is that if Stepan or Richards goes down, even for a few weeks to injury, we suddenly have Brian Boyle centering for our top 6.

That is simply not ok.

Eh, I think O'Reilly is better than Stepan.

yeah our leader, our best PP scorer (2 years in a row now) who just scored 29 goals are gonna play on the 3rd line with players with hands of stones, yeah right...

When Gaborik comes back the lines will be something like:

Nash - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - Boyle - Pyatt

or

Nash - Richards - Callahan (nash + richards assumed chemistry)
Kreider - Stepan - Gaborik (stepan + gaborik chemistry)

but we all know that the lines are gonna change every night, since our coach seems to like it.

Miller might be ready it's hard to tell. I think Rangers will let him start in the AHL, ease him into it and then call him up midseason.

I'm fine with Boyle as our 3rd C, I'd want someone more offensievly gifted though, but I rather roll with Boyle as a 3C than trade one of Staal, Girardi, McDonagh for an upgrade.

Hagelin > Backlund

Pyatt </> Stajan. Especially if you consider the difference in salary, no thanks.

I think Sather signed Halpern as a 4th line center because he knew he might get Nash and therefore would have to trade Dubinsky and/or Anisimov.

I think Boyle is the Rangers 3rd line center for better or worse. The Rangers would probably have to give up too much for an upgrade on Boyle.

Dominic Moore, Brendan Morrison, Jochen Hecht, Daymond Langkow, Jason Arnott, Patrick O'Sullivan

Take you pick. These guys can all fill the third line center role without having to give up a damn thing.

I would look at Matt Cullen from Minnesota.

He would provide that team some salary relief and roster relief

I assume Koivu, Brodziak, Granlund and Konopka are their centers.

I think Cullen would be a nice fit at 3rd line center for the Rangers
