So the Twins best package they could get for Liriano came from the UNANIMOUS WORST farm system in the major league's, nevermind it's in the division for the dirty hated south siders, THE WORST FARM system although we aren't too far behind. This is almost as bad as dumping Delmon for nothing. There is no hope in that organization.

Hernandez has good stuff and isn't a bad prospect

Has good potential as #4 SP in longrun

They tossed our best pitcher. This is officially the low point of the season, and that's saying something. I don't think I'm going to be watching many more games this season.

Well, they HAD to do something....either re-sign him or trade him.....because otherwise he would be a free agent at the end of the season. The tough part about trades like this (when prospects are involved) is that it will take years to determine the real value of the players coming to us.

Just keep stabbing us in the heart, boys. There were two teams that I didn't want to see him go to: White Sux and the Yanks.

Can't the earth open up and swallow those two clubs already?

This is BS!

At this point the Twins only have two players that I give a damn about, Mauer and Willingham. I haven't given up on Morneau yet but he definitely needs to improve next year if he wants to stay around. I'll give him a pass this year with the concussion recovery and all.

Maybe I should just pick an NL team to start caring about at this point.

Liriano was not our best pitcher, he's good for a few starts and then horrid for a few starts. His value was not high and I'm honestly surprised we got anyone to take him.

Not our best pitcher? Hell yeah he was, he just wasn't consistent. He's got one of the nastiest sliders in the game but his control just hasn't come back since having Tommy John surgery.

Who is our best pitcher then? Blackburn? Baker? Pavano? They all suck, especially Blackburn. The Twins will never succeed at all until they improve their entire pitching staff dramatically.

Shoot, didn't realize Diamond was doing that good. Guess it goes to show just how little I've been following the Twinkies this year.

Two things:

Lirirano was our best pitcher, like it or not, consistent or not.

The White Sox of all places? Can't stand the White Sox, or any other team in the AL Central for that matter, but they are the worst.

I don't think anyone could argue that Liriano was our most talented pitcher...

The guy had all the tools in the tool box, but couldn't get past all the half empty paint cans to find the tool box consistently enough.

I'm glad he's gone, because I can't stand watching someone who has the ability, but lacks the composure. But trading him to a division rival, for peanuts, was just plain stupid...

So the Twins sought out a some what speedy middle infielder with above average defense with a horrible bat and a pitcher who throws soft toss with not much room for upside? Color me shocked.

Liriano was the most talented pitcher on this team. He's just a marshmallow between the ears. I'm glad the Twins have finally gave up on him. I would also guess this was the best deal they were getting for a guy who has been hammered for two straight seasons. I'd would guess again the White Sox added after they got left out on the Greinke deal. It was past time for this move imo.

It won't matter what he does with the White Sox, it was not happening here. Don't just remember the last two months, remember the last two years as a whole. Maybe this wakes him up and he gains some heart because he sure could use one.

I wish him well and goodbye.

Talented does not equal best. He was 3-10 with an ERA over 5, and a WHIP of nearly 1.5.
He doesn't have the mental toughness and I don't think he will rebound with Chicago. His value was very low and I'm shocked we found anyone to even take him for more than a bucket of balls.

Guess I'm in the handful who actually thought Liriano was an asset to the team.

As far as this year, the silver lining might be Mauer just a few points behind Konerko for second in the AL in batting and surely in the race to win it once again:

Twins will always do *decent* at the ticket market because they are the only thing going on in the summer and some people will always want to go out and watch a baseball game on a nice summer day or night, but eventually, with all the moves going around with the Wild signing Parise and Suter, and the Wolves at least trying to put something together, the Twins ticket will not be valuable.

The Twins have some pieces to work with, but their pitching is just atrocious. I don't know how they're going to fix it, but they must do something to get some real pitchers in here. They haven't had a top of the rotation guy since Santana (although Liriano looked like it in 2010), but from the sounds of it, Morneau could be traded. The thing is now with where we are at, we have to ask the world for the likes of Span, Morneau, and Willingham. And they should. They're in a position to just wait it out. I hope Ryan is able to capitalize on a small market of "sellers" and is able to get some value out of Span and Morneau (if they are indeed traded).

As far as the Liriano trade goes, Ryan has been quoted as much as saying that they took the best deal on the table. The reality is that obviously Liriano didn't have as much value as some people thought, and hopefully these guys can help out the big league club a bit. I mean, if Escobar is a replacement for Casilla and saves you a mil or so, that's worth it ONLY IF you spend that money to acquire something of need (like a top flight pitcher).
