Take you pick. These guys can all fill the third line center role without having to give up a damn thing.
This is really a no brainer.

I haven't looked at the stats but I don't believe Boyle has potted 15 outside of that fluke year a couple of years ago.

Why don't Ranger's fans want Boyle at centre ? He's great on faceoffs...

Do you realize that you cant get a young All Star like McDonaugh for a third liner.

We just had a poll on who is the best Ranger outside of Lundqvist, and more people said McDonaugh than Richards or Gaborik or Staal. Yes, he is that good.

A third liner normally brings back a 2nd-3rd round pick, sometimes less than that.

Other team's fans need to realize that the Rangers will not trade any of their top 4 D, and with Gaborik out for a bit, as well as Nash costing two roster forwards, that the Rangers forward depth took a small hit. Hagelin is off the table for that reason alone.

This is the lineup at the beginning of the season:

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Pyatt-Boyle-?
Rupp-Halpern-Asham (serving a short suspension)

When Gaborik comes back:

Nash-Richards-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Gaborik
Hagelin-Boyle-Pyatt
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

Trading Hagelin destroys winger depth and takes away from the Rangers great speed on the wing.

Now if you want some combination of picks and Yogan, St. Croix, Fogarty, McIlrath, Miller, or Thomas... that's fine, but you can't have a roster player.

Picks and prospects is "giving to get"

Asking for a Rangers roster forward or defenseman, that's just being greedy on your part.

I'd LOVE to bring Cullen back. If the cap goes down maybe we could snag him from the Wild...they have less than 2 mil in cap space right now and Cullen makes 3.5 mil this year.

I'm not saying top 4 D but I think you'd be moving some roster player

This made me laugh for some reason.

The Ranger depth isn't as bad as you make it sound, and all their players are not as untouchable. A good 3C will cost more than you think.

It doesn't cost a top-pairing D-man.

don't see why the Rangers even need another 3rd line center with Richards, Stepan and Boyle already there?

When Gaborik comes back the lines will be something like:

Nash - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - Boyle - Pyatt

or

Nash - Richards - Callahan (nash + richards assumed chemistry)
Kreider - Stepan - Gaborik (stepan + gaborik chemistry)

but we all know that the lines are gonna change every night, since our coach seems to like it.
Callahan IMO would be better on the 3rd line he's more of a grinder. Callahan being on our 3rd line gives any of our first 3 lines a chance to score, plus kreider playing with boyle hurts him because he's too fast, same w Hags. However, you are right, Torts doesn't believe in lines lol

Can we get over the thought of boyle not being a top 6 center if Richards or Step were to go down? What team wouldnt be screwed losing their 1 or 2c?

Sign Dominic Moore.

He has a history here. Gritty, hard-working player that is good defensively and can win faceoffs.

It's too perfect of a fit.

Sign Moore for the 3rd line, sign Kubina for the 3rd pairing and call it a day. Wait for Gaborik and Sauer to get back.

Stunned that Boyle isn't ideal for you guys. Maybe sign D.Moore and move Boyle to wing?

I'm curious as to why no one wants Boyle at center on the third line...He is decent at faceoffs and has been doing pretty well...

Boyle is a good 3rd line center.

Brian Boyle was 8th among NYR forwards in pts, which equates him as a solid 3rd line point producer. However, he put up this points while starting 28.8% of his shifts in the defensive zone. He brings ridiculous size, he will drop the gloves if needed, he wins faceoffs, he works extremely hard out there, he blocks shots like crazy and has a nice shot himself. I think he is fine as a 3rd line center, but Ranger fans are becoming greedy now.

While I agree that Boyle is a good 3rd line center and I like his size and defensive play, there's no reason that this team can't add Dominic Moore and provide even more depth in the bottom 6.

After all, there are people in this thread complaining about depth, right?

Dominic Moore is a perfect remedy for that. Adds good speed too, which is the new team dynamic as it seems and rightfully so.
