Not to get anyone's hopes up, but on Twitter, the masses are saying the 30/4 yr deal report is false and moreover, if Doan doesn't get a good feeling from Phoenix, this might be the last day of considering Phoenix.

.... and he's still keeping in contact with the Flyers.

If we'd get Doan I'd hope it would only be a 2 year contract so that it comes off the books when we need to re-sign Giroux, Cout, and Schenn.

That would be the only contract length that I would consider. A longer contract would most likely mean losing one of Couturier or Schenn. Oh, and it's a 35+ contract.

To be unbiased, there are Flyers fans that think that the Flyers deserve no suspension and will defend them to the end. Even if it's blatantly obvious a suspension is necessary.

The more I think about it, the more correct this post truly is.

Oh I agree, I think every fanbase looks at things with their own "colored glasses".

I understand your rationale for this, but I think the most important part of the contact besides years, would be cap hit.

If they can get Doan for 4.5m, then in 2 years, when Mez and Bruno fall off the books (hopefully replaced by a strong performance from Manning/Gus/MAB/etc) that is 4.8 million back in the fold.

Moves could be made, contracts expire, that could warrant well-planning GM to give Doan more than 2 years. Briere's contract is gone in 3. Kimmo's 6.3 gone after this year.

As of right now, the big year for Roo/Cooter/Schenn, the Flyers have 35 million in cap space.

Really no reason to consider the contract situations that much until the new CBA gets signed. Who knows what kind of cap space, RFA rules, et are in place when that happens.

Yeah, I realize that but I just don't think the Doan is going to be any less than 6 mil/yr at this point. Should be interesting since we have to re-sign Giroux, Schenn, Coots, Simmonds, Read, Hartnell, Read, and maybe Mez depending on how well he does. Also have to take into consideration the new CBA coming up and hoping that the salary cap doesn't drop too much.

if the new CBA has an amnesty clause like the NBA the Flyers could amnesty Briere in the last year of his contract when Giroux and the others are due raises. If they still think he has game left they can bring him back at a lower cap hit. They would still be paying him his salary off the books so the cap hit would be lower.

they may even consider giving Doan the extra year to get him then look to do the same thing on his last year.

I would like to see guys like Wellwood and Holmstrom get a shot but looking at the East the Flyers could use Doan and/or Arnott in their line up. Hopefully, the Stars tank this season and they can get Jagr or Morrow at the dealine.

Kimmo's 6.33 is coming off after this year but if he's willing to play i think they'll try to re-sign him too. Thats just one more person to add to the list of names you compiled that will need new contracts all before Briere's 6.5 mil comes off. I think it's doable but with the uncertainty in the new CBA (specifically the salary cap, RFA contracts and the potential for a cap on the number of years offered in deals) its hard to tell how its all gonna play out and giving doan a deal for more then 2 years will just complicate matters further. Homer has some tough decisions to make in the coming years.

You'd better hide the china when he gets starts with the way this team plays. They're gonna find out fast that there's nobody back there to pull their ***** out of the fire if they screw up.

If I was a gambler, I'd go to Vegas and bet on that.

Knowing that G and Carle are buddies, do you guys and gals think G will try and clown Carle when they play each other? Like just deke him something fierce to make Carle look silly?

I could see that, G probably knows all of Carle's defensive moves and will exploit them for his advantage. Maybe we'll win some more games against Tampa now

If you couldn't get Doan, would you take a chance on Andrei Kostitsyn?
