Plus rollerblading can be done from the short track all the way to a 26.2 mile marathon.
I wonder if any of the Ice Speed Skaters would do this as a summer event?

Definitely, but luckily it'll get a good look since the World Championship will be there in Sochi in 2014 as well. I think one of the reasons they are pushing for 2018 is not only to help it grow more but also because of funding.

A championship ala ROC (race of champ.) in automotive.
Those sports marked with an asterisk are not eligible to be included at the Olympic Games because the Olympic Charter specifically bans sports with an element of motorization from eligibility.
Football should be one, but it would be even worst than mens basketball ...
Baseball.. would be competitive to one point but much like mens basketball...USA
Downhill mountain bike should definately be.
SkateBoard, Surf, Wakeboard, Wakesurf etc should be added. They added snowboard slopestyle why not ?
Maybe MMA.
Deck Hockey/Cosom floor.. what ever you call it.
They also should add the benchpress, Squat and deadlift to the Weightlifting. This ould be amazing.

MMA!

Got to let in the pros though.

USA, Brazil, Japan, Canada, GB, Korea, Mexico, Germany, The Netherlands, France and more could send representatives.

Problem is, I don't think there is a world governing body of MMA that could create a qualitification process for the games.

What about some of the XGames sports. Didn't they have skateboarding in the Summer Olympics one year? You could do that, BMX, some of those motercycle contests, and Rally Car Racing. Of course You don't want to turn the Olympics into the XGames, but why not include some of those disciplines.

Squash and Cricket (whether it's 20/20 or ODI) should obviously be there.

Golf and Rugby Sevens have correctly been added, as has skiing halfpipe for the Winter Olympics (what a joke that wasn't in sooner).

Hard to see many other options beyond that.

Post I made in the GDT:

Hopefully American Handball gets more popular. It's huge in NYC, but beyond that, I've never been anywhere that plays it. I would love to see it in the Olympics one day, but it would be dominated by people from New York, including the Chinese people here. They're incredibly good at it.

Baseball absolutely should be an Olympic sport again given it's popularity in North America, South America, and parts of East Asia. The only thing really going against it was the fact that it's not popular in Europe, and Europeans are overrepresented by the IOC in a big way. The fact that MLB wasn't willing to send players certainly didn't help, but didn't think that that was a good enough reason to block it.

.... and remember, the USA only won gold in Olympic baseball once. Cuba won it three times and South Korea won it once, as well.

Softball, too.

As for other sports, I am looking forward to Rugby Sevens making their debut in Rio and do think that Twenty20 cricket would be a sensible addition to the Olympic lineup as well.

Bandy might make for an interesting addition for the Winter Olympics, too.

I don't think they should add more sports, for me it ruins the Olympics

Football, Basketball, BMX, Mountain Biking & Tennis just don't feel very Olympic to me, but of course they are very popular sports and it attracts more people

Time wise it would have to be tightened schedule wise. But that would be awesome. Maybe have a top 16 single elimination tournament. (Thus increasing the odds of the embarrassing but always enjoyable Canada vs New Zealand match-up.)

You use your hand to hit a ball. Handball.

If you ask anyone in NY what handball is, they will describe American Handball.

Dodgeball and Baseball. Just because Europeans are bad at Baseball doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Baseball is only popular in a handful of countries. Dodgeball, as far as I know, is merely a gym class sport in middle schools.

This may be unpopular but I think it's stupid how there are events in the olympics that need to be judged by judges. How is diving and gymnastics a sport? Sure it takes great practice and athleticism, but the outcome is based on opinions of judges. You can't measure win vs loss. Am I the only one with this opinion?
