Was thinking the same thing.

Still 1-0 to the US. 30 minutes to go.

Not sure but the replays are up on the NBC website. Just have to have an account or something.

That's why I didn't say the results, because I didn't want to spoil it.

Not sure of your definition of "often" because I would argue that games are rarely scoreless, and that a 0-0 game can be very exciting as well. In 2011-12, Europe's 5 major leagues averaged 2.86(Ger) 2.81(Eng) 2.76(Sp) 2.56(It) 2.52(Fr) goals per game, and in lower quality leagues goalscoring is often higher because of the lower skill level of players. Shootouts are only used in knockout stages of competitions, and because they occur in high profile games that people remember they appear more common than they actually are.

I totally understand liking offense sports more because soccer falls pretty low on the offense per time elapsed spectrum, but the difficulty of scoring is part of the appeal of soccer IMO.
yes, i do. if there are 10 scores a game in sport x, and 2 scores a game in sport y, luck plays a bigger part in sport y. luck/fluke is pretty much the same % in any given sport or event. (such as a puck glancing off a stick, a ball off a foot, a ball off a club)

any score in any sport requires a number of things to go right to build to the moment of the score.. as luck is pretty much affecting the same % of those things in each sport, you can conclude that with a greater sample size of scores, luck is diminished in importance.*

Wouldn't more time played (90 minutes vs 60 in many other sports) mean that there would be more "luck" in a match, thereby decreasing the influence of any single "lucky" event?

Also that part I bolded is nonsense, and is disproven every night in the NBA. There are guys who can score at will on their own.

On the first part, yes. an increase of time should help decrease the luck factor.. however, much of that time is spent at midfield... the best way to minimize luck is to increase the number of, to use a hockey term, scoring chances, of which soccer still has a fairly small amount.

and i reject your nba analogy. partly that's a function of the design of the game.. it's a game that one person can very much score on their own... however, if the lebrons of the world truly controlled every factor and could score "at will," they would... every trip down the court. "at will" is figurative. (though i agree far more likely in the nba)

whatever, i'm not trying to convince you to not enjoy soccer.. it's purely subjective what sports we all enjoy.. hell, lots of people enjoy the "sport" of poker tournaments.. soo not my cup of tea.

As per Wikipedia:

Elephant seals spend upwards of 80% of their lives in the ocean. They can hold their breath for more than 100 minutes[6][7] — longer than any other noncetacean mammal. Elephant seals dive to 1550 m beneath the ocean's surface[8] (the deepest recorded dive of an elephant seal is 2,388 metres (7,835 ft) by a southern elephant seal).[9] The average depth of their dives is about 300 to 600 metres (2,000 ft), typically for around 20 minutes for females and 60 minutes for males, as they search for their favorite foods, which are skates, rays, squid, octopuses, eels, small sharks, and large fish. Their stomachs also often contain gastroliths. While excellent swimmers, they are also capable of rapid movement on land.

Why do they blow the whistle like every 5 seconds?

Doc said something like it's for a foul, but it's like they just keep on playing.
