As a Canuck's fan I am sorry to say that I love watching Bartschi play. He's like a Parise / Ray Whitney love child that's not too happy about it....plays with a chip on the shoulder. One of the most creative players I have seen in the WHL.

Hands down my favourite player not in the NHL.

Btw, Eberle is 5'8 and he's skinny as hell. See him in Edmonton quite often. He won't last long in the NHL if he doesn't put at least some muscle. Even though he's "skinny" he seemed kind of pudgy...showing that he lacks any semblance of muscle definition. He's going to start getting creamed next year the opposing dmen. Baertschi at least has a frame where he can tack on some mass.
eberle is a hair over 5'10, and he certainly isnt pudgy. 1000 bucks he has more muscular endurance than you, he's got a good muscle tone.

Sven single-handedly brought the team back from deficits three times in that series, always scoring the important goals. He was the only offense going for Portland. The Oil Kings are a heck of a team and have great goaltending and defence. They'll be even better next season.

You don't think he has Eberle potential? Why not? It's not like Eberle was picked first overall here. Both are similar in height and stature, and play very similar games. They can both stick handle in a phone booth.

Of course Sven has a long way to go before he reaches the calibre of Eberle, but right now I see no reason why Sven can't be as good in the future.
And I suppose Jankowski (or however you spell it) will be the next Gretzky.

Eberle rarely gets touched.

again, wtf?

How is my comparison in anyway outrageous? Would you have rather me said Sven will be a big bust and bolt to the Swiss league in a year? Is that the only acceptable response?

How is what you're doing anything but trolling? It's not like I compared Sven to Lemieux. Why put words in my mouth?

Edit: Ah, it's you. all 21 posts trashing the Flames in one way or another. Well done.

No, he's going to be better than Gretzky. 250 pts annually.

Lol, its really quite funny how just because Baertschi isn't a oiler, you guys feel the need to try and downplay him here.

Are Sven and Mikael going to play on the same line together this year?

I really need Backlund to finally break out in a way.

Exactly.

They expect everyone to believe that Yakupov will be a superstar and that Hall will somehow learn to keep his head up, but Flames fans can't even get excited about a player that was widely believed to be the best player in the CHL last year. A kid that also scored 3 goals in 5 games in the middle of an NHL playoff race.

Being the worst team in the NHL for years is the only way to get good prospects in their minds.

Not only was he a offensive threat but he was playing with Tko and Nemisz and Baertschi was the best defensive player.

It is believed that Sven will play on a 1 of 2 lines either
Sven - Backlund - Stempniak

or

Sven - Cervenka - Hudler

I would think yes. His overall game is better than Mika, and that's not a knock on him. Zibanejad is great, I just think Baertschi has potential to be better.

The kid plays his ass off hoping to make his dream come true, and without knowing him personally, you hope he falls flat on his face and his career fails...just because he is property of a rival team.

Way to go.

Ziba is going to be a much more physical player though.

It's also every hockey player's dream to win the Stanley Cup, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be happy when Calgary wins.

Don't take comments like that so seriously.

I was so mad when the NHL eliminated tie games.

I'm always mystified when great prospects are dismissed for being too small, as if a guy at 5'10" has never succeeded in the NHL before. Both Granlund and Bartschi will be successful impact players.

Sven's 5'11 now too. 5'11 really isn't as small as it used to be in the NHL. ( See, Ennis, Gerbe, St.Louis, Roy, Cammalleri, Datysuk, Zetterberg, Crosby,)

Two points in his first AHL game last night and another two tonight and it isn't even the third period yet. This guy is on on fire coming right out of the gates.

Highlights from first game (beauty pass at 1:20 and great hands on the goal at 1:36)

Baertschi really is something special, wouldn't surprise me one bit if he tears up the AHL in his first season.
