research request value of Biron + Boyle for Olsen + pick

I am in minority but wanted some feedback from you guys.

Feel Cam Talbot COULD, no definite lock, but might handle backup role, freeing Biron.
Biron is not a workhorse but still quality guy w/good fit for right team. Hawks working out Crawford, Biron = great mentor + quality games over limited schedule = probably good fit.

Thinking
Biron + Brian Boyle
for
Dylan Olsen and a 4th

am receptive to all comments, but am trying to keep it to this deal, because I see other possibilities as well and prefer to place these players in this package.

Thanks in advance.

How does Ray Emery and Bryan Bickell for Dylan McIlrath and a 4th sound?

Bickell is not at all a good comparison for Boyle. Boyle was 4th in hits this year for centers and can take Bolland off 3rd line duties and bump him up to 2nd, it solves a lot of our center problems.

I'd consider it for sure.

Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Bolland-Kane
Stalberg-Boyle-Shaw

That's a tempting thing to consider.

I don't know, I'd probably pull the trigger to be honest. Olsen is definitely a nice player and he'd be great on the back end, but you just hope then the Johns can fill his role.

I've been clamouring over Boyle since he was with the Kings.

Boyle would be a great addition to the line-up, as he has some decent hands, and could play the front of the net on the PP.

I posted about wanting Boyle during the play-offs this year, fills quite of few of our needs.

Center - check
Over 50% FO - check
Kills penalties - check
Size - check
Hits - check
Grit - check
Blocks shots - check

Why not take a run at him?

According to some on here that's exactly what Bowman looks for in a player NOT to acquire.

I love the idea of Boyle on the Hawks... but it will never happen.

McIlrath was a top third pick overall, like 10ish, if I remember correctly. He was taken to be a Scott Stevens type, and as a stay at home D, could get here by end of this year. He's not untouchable, but he's a big like and he's not going anywhere cheap.

Idea is for NY to gamble on backup G and see what that could yield at D.

And don't forget the temporary but real plus of Biron.
So I may consider this a yes??

Am considering this not a vote. You clearly would, but don't see it happening.

Thanks for the feedback.

Definite no, so that's 3-1 so far in favor.

Bubba88, why do you think so? Particularly in light of favorable comments above?

Value not good?
Or value ok, but you'd rather have Olsen?

I don't make the trade either. I don't trust Boyle's hands or wheels to keep up very long before he's reduced to being an expensive 4th/situational 3rd line center (he's going to be very expensive to keep after the following year I think). I think Olsen will be much more cost effective for the next four years.

If they trade Bolland, my perspective changes and I think it's a trade that should be considered swapping out Biron for another player minor role player or prospect.

Biron vs Emery as backup doesn't really make me feel any better about the position.

Would like Boyle, but including Biron as a plus is a piece we just don't need if Olsen is going the other way.

Value is good, I just don't see the need to give up on Olsen, who plays a style our D is missing + I don't see a need to include Biron who would do nothing for us and wouldn't be that upgrade. Then it comes to Boyle. I like him, don't get me wrong but I hope for others to step up and do what he can... be big and physical

Sounds like Bowman thinking...hopefully it doesn't backfire but I think it will.

The one thing your reasoning doesn't do for sure- make the team better right now. That's the problem with it. Adding Boyle makes the Hawks a better team this year.

It's not like Boyle is old. We can use for him for many years.

I'd prefer not to trade Olsen for a forward.

There are other guys that make sense.

We need Olsen and his physical play as soon as next season... Trading him for a Bottom 6 Player is not called "good asset management".

Definite no with possible reservations.
That's 3-2 yes.

Thanks for the insight.
Bottom line no, 3-3 tie.

What gives? I thought you guys were so hot and heavy for some G, you were looking at long term Luongo investment.... possibly costly down the road....

You're NOT interested in Biron, apparently???...
