If you buy a magazine, keep in mind that the info might be over a month old come your draft. I usually buy 1-2 in late summer to start my research. But then in the last few days leading up to my draft(s) I go online and get more up to date info. I also subscribe to an online site during the season. I find that it helps. (KFFL.com is a website that allows you to build your own draft guide, based on the scoring rules for your own league.)

I only compete in a couple leagues with old college friends/co-workers, but we are pretty serious about it (this is our 19th year for one league) And I have managed to win to our Superbowl game three times since 2000, so I feel it works!

I'd join a yahoo league again if there's a spot.

1. yahoo
2. i like big leagues, 12+
3. afternoons/early evenings Sunday-thurs, anytime Friday/Saturday
4. head-to-head, don't care about scoring categories as I'll adjust strategy
5. Arizona Cardinals

Disregard what it says about individual players though. I see they highlight Chris Johnson in one of the images/captions. The article is over two years old, so performances listed in that article aren't correct anymore.

Looks like we're going with Yahoo, based on what everyone has said.

And if Avder does indeed sign on, it looks like we'll roll with 12 teams. That is fine by me.
KK, will start reading that later tonight and start making up my mind.

Ah, saywut, welcome back!

Head-to-head is definitely the way I'd like to go, and it looks like we'll probably be doing that.

Sounds good man. If you have any questions, post 'em here and I'm sure I(or anyone else) can try to help. It's really simple, I just kind of jumped into it last year for my first time and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

So, unless Avder(or someone else) drops out, at this point we have 13. Maybe we can lure someone into joining as a 14th? Although that's a pretty big league, we want to include as many as possible.

As for draft order, unless anyone has a problem, I'll simply assign numbers to people based on when they first posted(1-14 or whatever) and then go online and use a random number generator to find an order.

Unless someone has a better idea? I'm open to suggestions.

The only question I would have for if I decide to do this would be what would be a good site to start doing my research on?

Would rather do 12 than 14. But it doesn't really matter much.

Yahoo sports has some good articles. Or you could simply go to yahoo sports and hop into a mock draft, they have automatic pre-set list that you can go through with. Just do a mock or two at 8 people each time, shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes to a half hour each time, to get a general idea of where everyone goes.

Here is ESPN's rankings. You can follow it directly at draft time, or simply use it as a rough guide to do what you want. In most leagues, ladder of importance is Running Back, Quarterback, Wide Receiver. Although there are exceptions.

EDIT: Also, moreso in the NFL than other leagues(NHL, for one), I've noticed a lot more NFL players tend to get in bad situations in the off season. Look at news around the NFL and you'll see that a good 5-10 players are facing suspensions for crimes committed this summer. Then there are a handful of hold-outs going on right now, namely Maurice Jones Drew in Jacksonville. He wants more money and is not going to practice until then. Each day he isn't at practice his value goes down, simply because he works with the team less and his game will presumably drop because of it.

And yeah, I'd rather do a 12 team, simply because when you do 14 it can get pretty dumb toward the end when you don't recognize half the players. We'll see who wants to do it for real and decide from there.

Since, you had a league last year, I wouldn't be offended if you keep it a smaller group. If you need a guy, I'm in. I'm really into Fantasy football. Would be a real active player if you guys need!

Here's an idea. What if we end up with enough people to do two or more leagues and we make it a yearly thing, and we do tiers like european soccer does. Promote 1-2 people from the top of the lower tier at the end of each season and demote 1-2 people from the bottom of the upper tier?

Ya I mentioned something like that in the OP and I think that would work wonderfully.

Right now we have either 14 or 15 people, meaning that we could almost do two 8-people leagues. I would be very happy with that.

While I like 8 person leagues, it almost always comes down to "who drafted the team with the least amount of injuries?" Find that team, find your winner. Every team is stacked. Still, I will have fun either way.

Are we doing points per reception again? Because I would be down for that.

12 is a nice number.

Last year was my first year (I think?) doing fantasy football and it was fun. I like it because you only have to update rosters once a week instead of hockey which is way more often.

I had no idea what I was doing and still probably won't but it's a nice way to kill half an hour a week, and maybe do some trash talking

Maybe we should shoot for two, 10 team leagues? That way we aren't stacked, but still takes some skill to find some sleepers.

I'd be up for that.

We just need people

I think we're at 14 or 15 right now. We certainly have time, we can wait around for some more people. Or we could open it up to friends on other boards?

Rather just do one league if there's only 14 people. While it isn't optimal like 10-12 person leagues, 14 is doable. Still requires smart drafting and doesn't necessarily go into obscurity.

When do I need to make up my mind? I'm trying to do some research to figure things out before I decide if I'm in.

Probably wont do the draft for another three weeks or so, so probably in the next week decide if you want to play or not.

Nachos wants ESPN, but seemingly everyone else wants yahoo Providence hasn't made a post since his first one, Avder makes decisions like a girl, going back and forth all the time So if any oneof them decides not to play, we can run a 14 league well enough.
