I know he ended up overseas but was he traded there? How did that all work out and was CHI able to take his contract off the books? Bergevin was there at the time so I was also wandering if a certain someone could the same fate?
Huet agreed to play for a French club, then he was waived, IIRC. You can't just decide where a player is going to play unless it's your NHL club or a club affiliated with the NHL and your club I think. The CBA should contain the confirmation for this. I'm not sure where the public can get a copy though.
Well I think the hawks were happy to keep his salary off the books and the goalie situation was pretty and still is good enough to compete at a high level with Emery and Crawford. Crawford's salary plus emery's will be a cap hit of 3.4m next year.
I don't think Huet has finished his career in the NHL I'm pretty sure he'll have a role somewhere soon.
Now concerning our Gomez problem I have always thought that subbing Gomer to Europe is a more viable option than the AHL, both for him personnaly and for us too. We wouldn't have to worry if he gets really good to get him back onto the alignment, only to see him under-perform in the NHL.
Huet wasn't a terrible goaltender or a bad person but every team he played for gave up on him wanted to make room for someone better or less expensive. In the case of the Habs it was because they had Price and Halak lined up.
Huet had nice run with us, but became overpaid in a hurry...he will be back in the NHL soon but as a backup, with filling in for a number 1 guy in a pinch...decent goalie...
Huet was a flash in the pan. It's amazing that the hawk's were dumb enough to hand a goaltender who played in 50+ games only once and under 40 every other season he played in a 20 million dollar contract.

Wasn't Bergevin part of that same Hawks organization at that time?
I have been having the same toughts for a while.....if Huet was sent packing for a euro team, and Chicago was kind enough to send him to a place close to his roots, maybe Bergevin could do everybody a favor and do the same with Gomez, send him close to home......Akbar Kazans !...Siberia baby!
Gomez is not European and has attained a certain level of respect in the NHL. It also seems Molson is not prepared to pay him to play somewhere else.If it was my money I wouldn't either.

Gomez has lost his lustre in the NHL, has been a distraction on the team last season, and if you listened to Molson's press conference when he fired Gauthier, and again when he hired Bergevin...he's now, more then ever, ready to do what it takes to make ' arrangements' to make sure these distractions are taken care of.
And if you have heard any comments coming from his futur coach's mouth on tv in the past 2 years.....you know Gomez is THE player he has the least respect for...in thiis case it's 1-1 = 0, case closed.
I don't know where he'll end up, but no way Gomez is around after training camp.

we can loan him to an AHL team... (Alaskan Hockey League)
Gotta love the homers bashing Huet and his career, when he was nothing but exceptional while he was here. The guy dusted off all the controversy, put up wins and solid stats, with garbage teams around him... but apparently he still sucked in the eyes of a few dorks around here.
