I'm still sticking to Arnott ending being our 3rd line center.

He nailed it. Not much of a 4th line but the top two are as good as they have been since 07-08. Likely better.

I would like to use a little money we have leftover (2-3 million) to sign another forward. Moore, Dvorak, Sykora catch my eye.

Kreider-Richards-Callahan
Nash-Stepan-Pyatt
Hagelin-Boyle-FA?
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

Until Gaborik is back I would want Richards and Nash separated so theres balance throughout the lines. But at the same time I want Nash and Richards to get chemistry, but its about depth so I'd rather separate them for now.

I don't think you can separate Stepan and Kreider. They've shown several times that they have good chemistry and I'm hesitant to break them up.

I know that the lines are going to constantly be shuffled but we should have Stepan and Kreider be the go to 2nd line pair when we need them.

I think Callahan, Nash, Richards makes sense but I think they should be placed in their off wing positions. Richards dishes the puck best to his right side, and it makes sense for the best scoring threat to play the right side. Plus, Nash is set up more for a shot on his off wing.

So

Callahan-Richards-Nash.

Inverted wingers have a propensity to be snipers or at least goal scorers, and are generally not more board-play specialists. That isn't absolute but that is the tendency. Playing the off wing allows you to have a better angle at net on the rush or whilst cutting inside, but makes it more difficult to play the puck hard around the boards or have a good dump in.

With Rick Nash at LW and Cally at right you'd have two guys with their sticks further away from goal. Its not a deal-breaking issue. But it is something to consider. If you want Nash on Richards's RW, I don't think you want Callahan on the left. You'd go with one of Kreider or Hagelin instead. I do not think Cally fits the mold of an inverted LWer. Nor do I think Nash or Gaborik are better suited at LW.

That is pretty much what I was saying earlier. Richards is going to dish the puck best to his right, so you want your best shot(and the best shooting position)on the right side. Therefore, Nash makes the most sense.

I do not think it would necessarily be a bad thing to try Cally on the left wing.

I agree, with one correction to the healthy lineup.

I don't want Doan, since there is no way we can realistically add him without screwing up our cap situation beyond this imminent season.

Well he usually plays LW on the powerplay (and he has had the most PP goals the last 2 seasons on our team) so he can play there, no doubt.

Lmfao... you rather use a 20 goalscorer on the 1st line (old and declining as well) when you got a younger and better version of him in Callahan?

We're not getting Doan, and if we do Hagelin is getting 3rd line playing time. Callahan won't be on the 3rd line, especially not at the expense of the older declining version of him.

I really think Nash is better suited to playing with stepan. Both Nash and Richards love to carry the puck through the neutral zone.

With Torts as coach, averyone will play with everyone at some point

This.

But when is Gaborik suppose to be ready? If there's a lockout though, he could be there for the opener.

When everyone's healthy

Kreider Richards Gaborik
Nash Stepan Callahan
Hagelin Boyle Pyatt
Rupp Halpern Asham

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Del Zotto
Bickel Stralman

Nash plays a style where he needs to carry the puck and make moves to be successful. He isn't a one-timer and wrist shot specialist like Gabby is. Richards is like this too. Which is why Richards/Nash won't work. Stepan will mesh much better with Nash, IMO. This also gives us better depth.

How likely is it that Bickel will be a full-time regular in the line-up vs. significant press box time?

I'm still saying Arnott as the 3rd line center if we miss out on Doan.

If you have Callahan on the third line, you're doing it wrong. Kreider and/or Hagelin are not going to see more playing time than our captain. Year after year, the same crowd put him on our third line, yet he's the most effective all-around forward in our line-up.

Torts is going to roll our top-6 heavily, unlike the past few season's. I know a lot of guys here want to split Nash+Gaborik, but I wouldn't, considering our second line can be plenty effective with the personnel we have.

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Boyle-Pyatt
Rupp-Halpern-Asham

Since asham is on a suspension does this mean he will not be able to participate in any preseason games?

I don't think he can play until he has served his entire suspension, so yeah I think he has to sit out.

Assuming Gaborik and Sauer are healthy:

Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
Nash-Stepan-Callahan
Hagelin-Boyle-Thomas (a bit of stretch...but one can hope!)
Pyatt-Halpern-Asham

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
MDZ-Sauer
