research request value of Biron + Boyle for Olsen + pick
I am in minority but wanted some feedback from you guys.
Feel Cam Talbot COULD, no definite lock, but might handle backup role, freeing Biron.
Biron is not a workhorse but still quality guy w/good fit for right team. Hawks working out Crawford, Biron = great mentor + quality games over limited schedule = probably good fit.
Thinking
Biron + Brian Boyle
for
Dylan Olsen and a 4th
am receptive to all comments, but am trying to keep it to this deal, because I see other possibilities as well and prefer to place these players in this package.
Bickell is not at all a good comparison for Boyle. Boyle was 4th in hits this year for centers and can take Bolland off 3rd line duties and bump him up to 2nd, it solves a lot of our center problems.
I don't know, I'd probably pull the trigger to be honest. Olsen is definitely a nice player and he'd be great on the back end, but you just hope then the Johns can fill his role.
How does Ray Emery and Bryan Bickell for Dylan McIlrath and a 4th sound?
McIlrath was a top third pick overall, like 10ish, if I remember correctly. He was taken to be a Scott Stevens type, and as a stay at home D, could get here by end of this year. He's not untouchable, but he's a big like and he's not going anywhere cheap.
Idea is for NY to gamble on backup G and see what that could yield at D.

I don't make the trade either. I don't trust Boyle's hands or wheels to keep up very long before he's reduced to being an expensive 4th/situational 3rd line center (he's going to be very expensive to keep after the following year I think). I think Olsen will be much more cost effective for the next four years.
If they trade Bolland, my perspective changes and I think it's a trade that should be considered swapping out Biron for another player minor role player or prospect.
Biron vs Emery as backup doesn't really make me feel any better about the position.
Bubba88, why do you think so? Particularly in light of favorable comments above?
Value not good?
Or value ok, but you'd rather have Olsen?
Value is good, I just don't see the need to give up on Olsen, who plays a style our D is missing + I don't see a need to include Biron who would do nothing for us and wouldn't be that upgrade. Then it comes to Boyle. I like him, don't get me wrong but I hope for others to step up and do what he can... be big and physical

Sounds like Bowman thinking...hopefully it doesn't backfire but I think it will.

The one thing your reasoning doesn't do for sure- make the team better right now. That's the problem with it. Adding Boyle makes the Hawks a better team this year.

Definite no with possible reservations.
That's 3-2 yes.
