Anyone plan on going to training camp?

Can't believe preseason games are almost here. It's preseason, but just the sight of RG3 taking the field with a Redskins jersey gets me interested. Will be interested in seeing how he does.

We can only hope he stays healthy throughout the preseason, and doesn't suffer any type of injury.

Hey the first capitals preseason game is only two months away from yesterday .

Been to a one or two but never one when it was Redskins Park.

IMO, training camp isn't that fun to attend. I went once, realized how far away you have to stand from the actual practices, and have never returned. If you're ok with viewing from afar (if you can see at all), it might be for you.

Won't the lockout start on the 15th?

Atleast RG3 will (hopefully) make for an exciting 6-10 season.

At least there shouldn't be a heart and soul crushing playoff disappointment!

I used to attend in Carlisle every year. You could get near the dorms and get a ton of autographs (when I was like 8-9, that was amazing). Most of the players were great, and it was really easy to find where they stayed.

Once it moved, I haven't gone since.

Yeah, this is my experience of training camp, its not really worth going. I prefer to get dirt cheap tickets and go to the preseason games.

Do they charge much to attend? I know there is a parking fee, but I could actually ride my bike there. Just not sure if it is worth the hassle or not.

I've been to about 2 training camps, I think. Maybe 3. Every time I went, the Redskins had an abysmal season. Went once when Joe Gibbs was the coach again, and got his autograph.

The key is to attend early

No, there's no fee for parking back when I went. Just park on grass and then walk through the gates to the concourse.

There was no fee to attend or for parking when I went last year.

Brown starts training camp on the PUP list. Shocker. If he were a horse he would of been put down long ago.

And I have never been to a Skins training camp. And since it appears they aren't leaving VA anytime soon for training camp I won't be attending in the foreseable future.

Pretty sure they are moving to Richmond starting next season.

Yup, and Richmond is in VA. I stay out of that state unless I have to enter for work or travel threw to get somewhere else.

Guys on 980 just dropped a cool bit of trivia on the Skins. The last time the Skins had a Texan at QB was Sammy Baugh. Could only hope Griffin is half as good as Slingin Sammy.

Training Camp Day #2 highlights:

- Hightower is not close to 100%. Reports are the Skins are looking at signing either Cedric Benson or Ryan Grant.

I'd prefer Grant.

- According to Shanahan, Royster looks like a starting NFL RB in practice. Makes people miss.

Would rather Royster or Helu compete for starting RB job then Benson or Grant.

- Former TB WR Desmond Briscoe claimed off waivers. 22 years old, 6-2 200+ lbs I believe. Led TB last year with 6 TD catches. Was cut for missing a lot of off season work and being out of shape.

Banks odds of making the team this year got longer.

I'd look at Benson. He'll do well in a RBBC. Grant looked like he lost a step to me. If you're going with the build from within route vs win now, you play the young guys. Hard to think they're not chasing wins this year like normal.

I don't think they will be chasing wins. I think the focus will be on Griffin and his development. That means ball control/run oriented. Take some pressure off the kid and ease him into the NFL.

Benson and Grant are available for a reason, and Benson has less wear on him, but I would prefer Grant for a couple reasons. He would make a good mentor to Royster and Helu and he would be an excellent 3rd down back.

Add Grant and Helu and Royster lead the way. Add Benson and he takes the lead at the expense of the kids, IMO.

Run a young RB. They're always the way to go.

Come on it's Snyder, he's always chased wins..lol. And of course the focus will be on Griffin, but you're saying, the Skins are going to grind it out on the ground and take the ball out of his hands in your ball control offense??!?! No way...this kid is going to be greenlit to do it all. I'd take the better player. Can't base your decisions like that. You have to play the guys who put you in the best position to win at all times. That guy might be Grant I guess, sure. I think Benson would be better for goal line TDs where Helu is a little small.

Yes I do not think Shanahan, Snyder, Allen, and the Skins will be chasing wins this year at the expense of Griffin's development. Will they lose on purpose? No, but Griffin needs to be eased into things if only for the first half of the season. Shanahan has already said he needs to temper his expectations for Griffin after the first coupld days of training camp because the kid is a Rookie making Rookie mistakes. Even Peyton Manning and the Colts struggled in Manning's first year.

I think we saw last year with Beck's less than stellar shot at starting what to expect this year with Griffin under center. Run first offense with play action and boot/rollout passes to take advantage of Griffin's excellent mobility. Add to it an improved defense and the Skins will be in the majority of their games this year and have a good shot at having a winning record.

And thinking it over, Benson is the better option. Younger than Grant, more durable, and that would allow Helu to focus on what he is, a 3rd down back. And Royster can be primary backup behind Benson.

What happens with Hightower will determine if Benson or Grant is added though. He has practiced already so he cannot be added to the PUP. If Hightower starts coming around neither Benson or Grant will be added. If Hightower doesn't then yes another RB will be brought in. Should know by the end of this week.

Also read that 6th round RB Alfred Morris has impressed so far in training camp. Shanahan even slightly likened him to when Terrell Davis was a rookie.

Bruce Allen was just yucking it up on 980 and he let slip he was just talking with the Raiders about a possible trade. I am sure NFL GM's are always talking to other GM's, but who could the Skins be interested in on the Raiders roster?

Looking over the Raiders roster for RB's no one jumps out at me besides Darren McFadden, and I doubt the Raiders would trade him. OL might be the other position Allen called about. Briscoe to Oakland for an O-lineman?
