Add Staal to the best defensive player list.

And McDonagh to consistent positive impact list.

Only because we got Nash. We could survive more without Mcd than Gabs if we didn't have Nash

Sorry but if we can survive without Staal we can survive without McD. If any of our big guns go down that is far more troubling than a defender because we have the best goalie in the world to help. Shame he can't score goals for us too.

I don't think the loss of Gabby will have even the slightest of impacts. Even if we didn't have Nash I wouldn't be much concerned.

Staal is a great defensive defenseman. McDonagh is Staal with offensive capabilities. If McDonagh does not get a career altering injury he will probably end up the 3rd best Rangers dman of the last 50 years.

McD may have more offensive upside, but he hasn't made any more of an offensive impact than Staal has thus far.

Plus, Staal is a touch more solid defensively at this point, IMO.

Define "at this point," because McDonagh was better than Staal defensively last season - but that has a lot to do with Staal's concussion and the fact it took him a while to get his legs back.

I like Staal, always have, but everything he does on the ice is a bit clunky. McDonagh, on the other hand, is one of the smoothest players Ive seen in a long time.

I refer to a fully healthy Staal, obviously. I would take the Marc Staal of 10-11 over the Ryan McDonagh of 11-12.

It's close, no doubt. McD is certainly smoother, but I like Staal's tenacity and aggressiveness. He's got more "mean" in him.

Went with Gaborik. The talent level is just too high not to.

I love McD, but I think he's getting a little overrated on these boards. He's a very, very good defenseman. But people are acting like he's the second coming. Frankly, I still believe a healthy Staal is slightly better at this point.

I'm interested to see Nash in this system.

I think Callahan is the heart of the team, but he's not the best player.
