I wouldn't be surprised if he lands somewhere like Florida, Washington or Tampa to replace the 1-year contracts of Theodore, Vokoun or Roloson as a backup goalie.

yeah I don't get the people saying he is completely done. He just had horrible contract. He wasn't that good either, but not bad enough to not even make an NHL roster. I see him as a back up next season for sure.

At age 33 he was outplayed by Khabibulin losing his #1 job( Khabby .919 sv pct to Huet's .909)
At age 34 he played in 48 games and posted a .895 sv pct while losing his job to a Rookie (Niemi)

He didn't have anything to offer NHL behind a stacked 09-10 Hawks team , Its safe to say at 2 yrs older he doesn't offer anything to an NHL club

I could see two way contract being offered with some sort of bonuses just matter of where a good back up fit.

Cristobal Huet is doing great in Swiss, .931 sv - 2.15 ga in 38 games with the Fribourg-Gottéron this season. Sure Ligue National A isn't the NHL but Huet could be a good backup or journeyman #1 goaltender.

Jim Matheseon of the Edmonton Journal had this to say about Huet

Quote:
Goalie Cristobal Huet, who was banished to the Swiss League two years ago by the Chicago Blackhawks to save salary-cap room, just finished a banner season in Fribourg, playing 39 games, and sporting a 1.99 goals-against average. He’s dying to get back to the NHL. Huet was making $5.625 million with the Blackhawks, but he’d gladly play for $750,000 as a No. 2, according to sources. The Kings, who say they want a veteran backup if they’re moving Jonathan Bernier this summer, might do well to consider Huet, who has a 2.46 GAA in 272 NHL games.

If Huet wanted to be in NHL so much he could have asked to go thru unconditional waivers and forfeited his salary

Of course he wouldn't do that (Nor anyone making that much)

But only person Huet has to blame for death of his career is himself ,, One of the worst goalies I have ever seen play for Hawks

As a Kings fan, if we got quick signed to a long-term deal and dealt Bernier, I'd welcome Huet back with open arms. Let the rookies battle him out to try and steal an NHL job.

Agent for Cristobal Huet said he's "still working on" landing a deal for former #Blackhawks goaltender with an NHL team.
My guess is at this point he's looking for a training camp invite and the chance to displace a young or otherwise vulnerable backup. Anaheim, Boston, Calgary, Carolina, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Jose, Toronto, Vancouver (Assuming Luongo is moved), and Winnipeg would be his best bets for a shot.

As a Jets fan, I'd rather have Huet than Montoya.

Kiprusoff isn't getting traded and Ramo isn't coming over this year.

There has to better options than Huet for the Flames if it came to that (unless the goal was to get a lottery pick).

Joking or serious?

At first I was soooo confused as to why he was even available, and was cursing Burke as to why he wasn't a Leaf as soon as he was available then I read the title again then realized I was thinking of Halak

Ottawa has no room for Huet. Anderson's our #1, Bishop's likely to be the #2 with Lehner challenging him and getting a few games in when injuries happen. We also just signed Nathan Lawson as a #2 in Bingo, so there's really no room for Huet on a two-way.

Same can be said about Phoenix, unless they really don't trust LaBarbera as a backup anymore. They have Louis Dominigue and Chad Johnson as well.

Winnipeg won't do either, because they have Montoya and Dekanich battling for the backup spot. Anaheim may have as many as four goaltenders battling to be AHL starters, so no room there either.

For me, the most likely scenarios are Boston or Toronto. I don't know how the Bruins feel about Anton Khudobin as a backup, so bringing in Huet on a two-way deal to challenge him for the spot makes sense.

Toronto might be a good option as well. Huet's already played in a huge media market in Montreal, so bringing him in to challenge Scrivens for the backup spot might be a good idea if Toronto can't swing a deal elsewhere.
