... and if the Olympics is in a town that doesn't play much baseball, you don't necessarily need to make a giant stadium. You can make a stadium or two the size of a minor league/college park, and that would do. It wouldn't cost that much either.

Also, when the games are over with, you can renovate the park into a different kind of stadium.
I don't know what other sports you can play in a baseball stadium. It has a very specific shape.

More importantly, apart from USA, Japan (the homes of the top 2 leagues), Canada and South Korea, we're talking about small and poor countries.

Not to mention that renovating wouldn't be cheap.

here's an article taking about having MMA in the Olympics

http://www.ctvolympics.ca/news/artic...tml?cid=rsstsn

the main point is if they did, it would most likely be amateur MMA (wearing head gear, shin guards, etc.) and probably wouldnt include UFC, or any other professional, fighters

Sounds a lot like basketball. Hell, there's really only a handful of countries that play it at a high level.

That's usually included in the budget and increases it.

Take out basketball and put back cricket or rugby in.

Baseball is easily played at a higher level in more countries, not to mention the level of competition is a lot more balanced. My only argument for not having baseball is that the game does not fit well into a 2 week tournament.

Argentina, Russia, Germany aren't too bad (Dirk), Greece, Turkey. There's thing called the Euroleague which is pretty high level.

You may also add France, Brazil and maybe Italy to that list.

It's also starting to grow in some African countries. Although I would not put any of them at a high level yet.

The last 6 Olympic or Worlds finals alone involved another 6 countries besides those three. Two of them even won it.

Let's be serious, there are a lot more countries that are competitive in basketball than in baseball.
Just look at the World Baseball classic, a country like Italy cannot even field a team, they use Americans instead. And they beat Canada, allegedly one of the many high-level teams.

Not high-level but still Nigeria knocked out Greece, which were European champions and World vice-champions just five years ago. And then Nigeria was only the third-best African team.

You would never see that in baseball.

I think I'd rather see more specific martial arts than MMA in the Olympics, like kickboxing and Jiujitsu. Then in a generation or so, when there are more well defined martial arts styles that are MMA (Like sambo) then it should be an Olympic sport. Right now it would probably messy. The sport is still finding it's legs.

That's more than enough. The only reason it is not in the Olympics is because none of those countries are in Europe.
Sure 8/200 is plenty of nations to represent a sport....
