Do you really need an entire ballpark? With the attendance that most the events get, a diamond with a few bleachers would suffice

As has been covered already, much broader competition plus bigger and more important countries playing it. I mean, Puerto Rico and Taiwan? I crap bigger than those.

One country don't matter. Other wise Finnish baseball or pesäpallo should be an Olympic sport as well. Ballpark cost definitely would not be an issue.

But USA is at least 10x more important than Finland, so by your logic our sports count more.

USA is barely a AAA country where as Finland is a strong one at that. And you suck at hockey and don't even care about that so that's a big no-non at this board.

Someone said Lacrosse, never struck me that it wasn't there. Is it big enough? There's only been like 20 national teams since like 2006.

Don't think it's big at all outside of US/Canada, it would be a perfect Olympic sport though if it was.

Don't believe I ever said anything about them being competitive, but they do have teams right? If not strike them from the list... even if they have teams I know damn well they're not good.

Darts and Bowling. Give the common everyday (obese) man who sits and watches the Olympics an event that they might actually be able to compete in.

If you're just going to list countries that field teams, there really isn't much of a point.

Hell, Mongolia has a team...

Baseball and softball obviously.

Wah, Europe doesn't play it, tough ****. We don't play handball and some of these other sports I never hear about until the Olympics and we don't complain.

Europeans actually play MEN's field hockey, don't they? Why not lose the skirts and make it inline hockey?

Because that sport is dying. E.g. fewer players and teams every summer in the Finnish league.

There's more than just that, and North America and South America are distinct enough to be considered separately, so three different regions. Realistically, we're looking at the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands (in the guise of their colonial possessions in the Caribbean), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and maybe a few other Latin American countries, plus probably a few maybe competitors like Australia, Italy, and China (though I'll admit that this one's a stretch). That seems like it should be enough for it to be an Olympic sport.

And no one forced the Olympic cities to build big or permanent venues for baseball and softball. They could easily just accept it's one of the lesser sports at the Olympic games and either build small permanent venues with temporary expansion seating or larger temp structures for their games, neither of which would be prohibitively expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Baseball is not popular in South America, it's popular in Venezuela, which is somewhat contiguous to or in the vicinity of Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic. So that's just one region.

Half of these teams are not really competitive and some like Italy can't even field an actual team and rely on Americans instead.

Maybe it would be if the very top players would actually attend.
