It's almost that time of year that George tells Vogel to go to Russia and do his Ovi interview. In which of course he will ask Ovi if he has started working out. And Ovi will say again he is starting tomorrow.

Give it a week.

Atleast fat Ovechkin can start hitting people through the glass, he already gets 3rd line minutes, why not try him as a checker.

I think he looks fine, he's never had bulging biceps. Plus the start of the season is still probably 5 months away.

They want everyone to have abs apparently. Cause you know, abs = in shape and not strong.

No one ever complains about anyone else being chunky. Just Ovi.

I don't know how you got that from my post. Your just being overly defensive.

She looks fine.

He looks like he signed a lifer contract. Good for him.

For the recorder, I don't give a rats ass if athletes are in shape or not. They get into shape long before the playoffs start, if coaches and trainers do their job. That's what training camp and preseason are for. How long does boot camp take?

Lol, this is rich. OP starts thread about possible engagement for star player. Gets 1 or 2 replays in two pages concerning possible engagement.

How's it celebrity gossip? This is the Capitals board. Ovechkin is the best player on the Capitals and is the captain of the team. Seems relevant.

Alex is a minor celebrity.
Speculating on his personal life is gossiping.

Let me know if you need me to define any other words for you.

It could be worse. The other forums on HF are just horrible. I try to stick to just the Caps forum here.

The Hellie Pad to the rescue!

As for Ovechkin, who cares. If he puts the puck in the net while swigging down a bacon shake i don't care. His scoring is more mental that it ever has been being in shape or not.

For July 26th, he looks like he's in fine shape. His better half is in fine shape. I don't mind it at all. I don't blame the guy. Does he have to live like a monk in Ted's basement like Crosby? He's 100 million dollar athlete who has a smoking hot tennis star to be with at the Olympics. Some of you are nuts if you would do any different.

while i agree ovi doesn't need to be shredded to be effective or be his former self.. i think after the past few seasons, he needs to be going extra hard in the off season not so much for his physic, but for the mental aspect of dedication and that 'i plan to train harder than EVERYBODY' attitude.

being the best in a league of amazing players isn't easy.

I want him to grow in terms of professionalism and dedication (just to make it that much more likely that he'll return to being the player the Caps need him to be), but that doesn't have to manifest itself in a physical/training sense. All you can do is wait and see how he plays.

I think the modern offseason demands on athletes are unfair.

When you were off from school during the summers, did you study? Its the last thing I would do. When you are on vacation from your job, are you focused every day on keeping your mind or body sharp for when you get back to work? There are things more important in life than working when not at work.

I have heard it in football mostly but 25+ years ago, camp was to get players into shape.

I am not certain but I believe many of the most entertaining sporting events I ever witnessed were from the era's when players didnt do dick during the offseasons. Bally's was a casino. Players were allowed to be people during time off.

These guys play a rough sport that may even end their lives prematurely. They need time off. Look at the concussion suit against the NFL. You wanted Rypien lifting weights and on a treadmill all summer, but he was eating aspirin.

They also weren't paid $9.7M a season then, either.

The stakes are higher now than they used to be. The investments are much larger, the overall level of attention to training is higher, the routines are more comprehensive. It's how sports have evolved, and there's really no way to go back. With the amount of money being paid to top stars, you can't afford to have them taking their time in camp to get ready, because other guys are going to put in their extra work to try and get that edge.

EDIT: And I don't think the injury point holds as much water, either, because people are more careful, not less, about those types of injuries these days than they were in the past. The increased focus on training also includes more comprehensive rehab programs. Now you can argue about whether those types of programs are favoring the interest of the team instead of the interest of the player, but I'd argue that if the investment is long term then those interests are aligned regardless.

But gas didn't cost $4 a gallon, either. There weren't many millionaires, the new standard is billionaire. Fans weren't stalking his twitter account. Yet as a fan, you were somehow still entertained when gas cost 50 cents a gallon, weren't you?

Its like dating. Opening a door, buying flowers. Once you are married, it all changes.

He hit the jackpot, and there is a healthy balance to be found between enjoying it, and respecting those that paid you for your previous efforts.

Don't dog him as he finds that balance. I vote let him live his ****ing life.
