Was pretty sure he'd come back, but good on him. Always love watching Ottawa games and he's usually the reason why.

Always loved Alfie! A class act! Both on and off the ice, and he's a pretty good hockey player aswell.

Here's a nice recent feature on him.

Who cares? This "busy" off-season even let's us see a stickied Kaleta-signing thread...

OT: Good to see Daniel back for the season that will see him reach 1100 points and 700 assists!

I'm glad to see him still playing. Alfie plays the game the way it's supposed to be played.

Without Alfredsson I don't think Karlsson is nearly as good as he is today.

Minor signings generally just end up in the Free Agent thread, not in a separate one stickied...

It's mostly because it was lead to believe that Alfie was more than likely going to retire this year (it's been speculated for 2 years now). So chances he came back were prob 1 to 9.

We all knew in our hearts he was coming back though so in a way, yes, the thread is pointless. But now it's confirmed

The reason this thread is stickied is because it does affect how Ottawa goes about FA and it does affect who they have as assets for this season. There are tons of ridiculous proposals out there that are fantasy offers that have less relevance than this thread.

If this was just a discussion thread - then we can move it to the NHL Board. So let's focus on how this sets up their top 6 and who they have for FA left.

And if you don't want to take part in the thread - simply utilize the ignore features HF offers you. You can click ignore thread and it goes away forever.

Good to hear about the old soldier.

Glad you have something to look forward to next season! Glad he's back, kind of figured he'd stay for another season.

ALFIES BACK!!!

And about these lines, I really do want to try Peter Regin in a top six winger role again, preferably with Spezza because he can be great there just like in the 2010 playoffs vs Pens (I know that was a while ago, but it's worth a shot). I say to start the season:

Regin/Latendresse - Spezza - Michalek
Regin/Latendresse - Turris - Alfie
Silfverberg

That way Silfverberg needs to work his way into the top six

The man is an absolute legend in Canada's capital. The best, most loyal and most cherished player this team has ever seen... in all likelihood will ever see. Ecstatic he's in top form and returning!

Great player, glad to see he came back, just not a class act in my book. (atleast on the ice, no idea how he is off the ice)

Congrats Mr. Alfie

I always respected him, but so much more after facing him in the playoffs this year.

Love Alfie, really happy he's coming back next year. With all the young talent in Ottawa's lineup, I think he'll be a nice calming influence in the dressing room, and a great role model of how to be a professional in Ottawa and the NHL in general.

(water bottles beware!!! of course this was after taking a hit on a play that i'm pretty sure he made a big mistake on, but it's still not a professional response. if somebody who i looked up to as my captain did something like that it certainly wouldn't boost my outlook on things)

(allegedly he was just trying to dump the puck without looking. personally don't buy it, but it's not an impossible scenario)

he's def a great hockey player outside of his temper in recent years and regardless he is a huge boost to the sens and the nhl. idk that i'd say he's a role model since the neidermeyer incident--but of course that depends if you felt he meant to do it or not.

either way this is an absolutely huge plus for the sens. despite the occasional temper tantrum he is easily my favorite player on that team. big grats. i'm glad he's not retiring. guy still has a lot left in the tank and can be an impact. one of your better guys in the playoffs for sure.

def a plus that you guys don't need to replace him

Every captain has there moments, no need to pick away at a couple.

Good for the Sens. Great player and good leader as well. Makes there top 6 that much better
