The Sabres have to respond with something here. I understand winning isn't everything in the AHL, but you have to at least make an attempt. Especially after a division rival, who was better to begin with, has added 2 all stars recently. They have to pick up one more forward.
I wonder if they could kick the tires on Bobby Butler again now that the Sens have bought hiim out. He's shaping up to look like a classic tweener/AAAA guy.
Edit - the Zigomanis deal is reportedly an AHL contract. Pffft.... what the hell.
I guess I'm confused by this. What other definite options did he have? I doubt, given his recent play, that there were a lot of teams wanting him. Maybe on an AHL contract or in Europe. He's in a similar boat as Persson in regards to North American opportunities.
As an RFA he didn't have many options unless the Sabres walked away. Having said that by all account's on other boards, he would more than likely would have been signed by either Dallas and a couple of others. Devine has stated he was their #1 D prospect before his injury.
This will be a make or break season as a Sabres prospect for him.
any guesses on what happens with Nathan Lieuwen next season
i think hes still eligible for another season in the juniors. but its not that bad if he gets sent to the ECHL
How about Frederick Roy, don't really see a spot for him with the Amerks
No, Leuiuwen is done with the CHL..He's 20/no longer eligible. There's a backup spot open in Rochester for him and Knapp to compete for. Whichever one doesn't make it could go to th ECHL or maybe be loaned somewhere else.
I'm well aware, I follow both as I am a Rochester native. Legault is mostly a waste of a roster pick. I thought Roy would be his replacement
They know what they get with Legault though -- he'll go hard and finish his hits. Roy's not established enough yet to know that he's going to displace anyone. Legault works hard, will bleed for the team and if he winds up in the Coast, they have depth when injury and recall happen.
Probably if a good NHL offer comes in. But I read an interview with him and there just weren't many good offers.
Some damn slim pickin's left -- maybe they could kick the tires on Graham Mink for another go-around in Rochester. I know he played for the Amerks a few years ago, seems like someone who could fill a top 6 wing position and wear a letter.
Hopefully not any more Stuart or Ellis types in the offing.

Mink, Trotter, Rissmiller, Greentree, Cheechoo or Mark Cullen would all be solid additions to the top 6. There are guys left.

I think this is pretty close to the Opening Night forward lineup. I think one of Ellis or McCormick will be sent down by Buffalo.
