Saying that the cap hit is the same each year makes no sense since it has no bonuses that can fall off and it isn't a long-term deal cap circumvention deal where the cap hit changes after 40, so he probably has no idea what he's talking about.
Your structure makes much more sense given what we see on NHLPA.

Great. He really is an amazing 4th liner, and on a 4th line deal. He does everything you ask out of a 4th liner, hard hitting, tough, defensively responsibility, plus he adds in other areas, such as being a good pker. Injury issues aside, he's the sort of player that rounds out your team.
