Canucks interested in Arnott

Shane Doan is the guy the #Canucks really want, but they are also talking with Jason Arnott. See him as fit for 3rd line centre position.

Arnott's agent, his brother Wade: "There seems to be some mutual interest." #Canucks

To be clear, Arnott only gets signed if Doan doesn't. #Canucks looking to get younger and can't do that with 2 guys north of 35.

The #Canucks dine with Doan, talk with Arnott. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/V...289/story.html

If we can't lock up Doan, I think getting arnott would be the next best thing. Until Kesler gets back, who fills that second line center position? Then he would slot nicely into the third line, with malhotra and Lappy on the 4th, being interchangeable if necessary

I'd say Arnott only has fumes left in the tank at this point.

Arnott would be a lot of teams' plan B.

I think Arnott would be a decent fit with the Canucks. He still has some game left in him and he had a solid season with St. Louis last year. If Doan is not signed then I think it would be the next best thing to do other than trading for a center. He would bring leadership, something that has been rumoured that the Canucks are lacking, and experience to an already well experienced team.

Not sure if he would be an upgrade over Lappy however who proved time and time again that he can play in a bigger role and excell. Depth is never a bad thing though especially when it comes to the Canucks who always seem to top the lists of number of missed games by injured players in the NHL.

Guy looked slow as hell with the Blues hope he's nothing but depth.

Other than being slow, he is great in all other aspects still. Massive body causing havoc in front of the net and has good vision on the ice.

Don't see why it would be either/or. We have different holes to fill - ie. 2nd line RW and 3C.

Edit - the 'we will only sign Arnott if we don't get Doan' comment seems like pure speculation in the article, based on cap space (not true if we move Lu) and age.

This

Arnott would also be much more suited for 4th line duty. I can't believe the Canucks would be looking at him for third line duty.

He was in a 3rd line C role in St Louis ya? How did he do for you guys? and why wouldn't you re-sign him if he did pretty well.

Issues between him and Hitch about practicing during the playoffs.

Arnott will need a winger to cover the defensive responsibilities for him. Arnott is essentially a winger on the defensive end, and the bulk of his offensive production came in the 1st half of the year and on the powerplay. I wouldn't expect much out of him for next season.

Use him for the first part of the year without kesler then save him for the playoffs.

and only sign him for cheap.

He is nothing more than a 4th line player now and barely even an NHL level player since his eye injury.

For their third line center spot, this would be a really good acquisition.

He was until his eye injury. He has never been the same since, but there is hope he can return to form this season, although I believe it is doubtful.

This is untrue. However, Malhotra's Selke-level play has dropped off significantly and had a tough year after the eye injury. Still competent in the defensive zone and can win draws like nothing else. There are a lot of players that are barely NHL level, Malhotra isn't one of them.

Not untrue at all, he is terrible and an offensive black hole. His face-off ability has dropped off a lot. He offers nothing that can be considered third line at this point. I don't even think he can stick handle anymore.

He played on the 4th line this year, took face-offs and killed penalties and that was it. He wasn't even that good at either. For 2.5 million to.

Both should be signed regardless.

Arnott 1yr 1.5MM
Doan 3yrs 5-5.5MM

Sedins Burrows
Booth Kesler Doan
Higgins Arnott Hansen
Weise Lapierre Kassian

Sounds good to me.

That sucks, Manny was always a great third line C, beast at face-offs.

Maybe by getting in the way. The guy does not like contact at all. Watched him in Nashville for 4 years and was not impressed. Huge shot but lazy and shies away from contact.

It's sucks, but it's true.

Maholtra is a shadow of his old self since he got hurt, and he will probably never be the same again.
