In order to open up the necessary roster spots for us? Otherwise we have a major logjam of bottom-6 wingers and are probably going to waive somebody down to Charlotte, which is financially significant for our organization.

Of the above, Dwyer is probably the most viable player but I guess it depends on your roster needs.
Sounds fine. The hawks don't have any bottom six needs so it'd have to be a guy we can send to to Rockford

I don't understand why Frolik's contract is a problem for anyone. His hit is only 2.3 at a real money avg of 2M over the next 2 years AND he's an RFA at the end of that. For a player who shows up at important games (where he's not even getting paid), I think its a fine deal. He's being used in a defensive situation and may very well reach some of that potential he's shown. Not saying he's worth a first, but I struggle to understand why everyone is so willing to get rid of him for a later round pick.

Here, me out on this one. As of now, the 'Canes have Jeremy Welsh penciled in at 3C, and while he appears to have a ton of upside, he's played 1 NHL game thus far. If he struggles a few months in, Carolina needs to do something about 3C, since I'd imagine it wouldn't look to good if this team, after the money that was spent, and the players that were signed, missed the playoffs. With Frolik, Carolina can add a solid player with just enough flash to be interesting, who could centre a solid Tlusty//Frolik//LaRose 3rd line.

This trade for Chicago frees up an additional 2.33m to a team that only has 7.54m left (according to capgeek) and gives them some flexibility throughout the season and a decent trade chip come deadline day (safe to assume the pick will be in the low to mid 20s)

Thoughts??
Makes zero sense to me, as I'm not following your logic.

You willingly overpay for a guy to fill the 3C role whose forte is not at center and whose strength is not defense to center the de facto checking line?

No thanks and a big one at that.

Frolik is a defensive player. He's almost never seen top 6 time.

Yup, Froliks defense >>>>> Froliks offense.

Not like that is saying much about his defenese.

Nope, he's an inconsistent offensive player whose inconsistency kept him in the bottom 6 in Chicago along with the Hawks' forward depth. This past year he was tried in a more defensive role due in part to his speed and his flagging offense. In Florida, he often played in the top 6 and was a PP contributor.

All that aside, the Canes don't need or want a guy to play a 3C checking role when that's not his forte. That's especially true if the cost is a 1st rounder.

His new "forte" is, and has been since the 2010-11 trade deadline, is a 3rd line player. Defensively sound, quick, and can PK at an NHL level.

Please. In 2010-11 he barely sniffed any PK time. Last season he was a third level killer in the waning moments with the hope he can counter-attack due to his speed.

Anyone who would trade for him would do so with the thought that he could regain his scoring not because of defensive acumen, which is merely average. When the premise becomes a 3C in a checking role and for a first rounder, it's a total non-starter.

LOL, sorry, it was obvious it was a mistake, but I honestly did not know which side was supposed to be offense instead.

Frolik started the year pretty strong but just couldn't finish for the life of him. It seemed to really drain his confidence and then he found his way in Quenneville's doghouse frequently which furthered dampened his confidence. He's still a young player who has shown he can compete in the NHL so hopefully he can rebound next year.

1st for Bolland? That's really bad for the Hawks... Those mid 1st would really tear the league apart in 5-10 years

Once Lombardi shows what he can do with a healthy off-season and full camp Leafs will trade him for a 2nd.

Unlike Frolik, Lombardi is actually a center.
