Canucks interested in Arnott

Shane Doan is the guy the #Canucks really want, but they are also talking with Jason Arnott. See him as fit for 3rd line centre position.

Arnott's agent, his brother Wade: "There seems to be some mutual interest." #Canucks

To be clear, Arnott only gets signed if Doan doesn't. #Canucks looking to get younger and can't do that with 2 guys north of 35.

The #Canucks dine with Doan, talk with Arnott. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/V...289/story.html

Don't really want Arnott. I would rather roll the dice on Malhotra getting back to form. Arnott could replace Kesler on the 2nd line. At the same time, however, Schroeder doesn't really have any more to learn from the AHL- he needs to develop his offensive game with wingers who have talent in the NHL.

If he signs on the cheap and isn't put into a big role, I would definitely be okay with this. Having him a couple years ago would've been better though.

Yeah there has been rumors the canucks have been interested in him for a while now, he'll definitely get signed if doan doesn't. if schroeder plays better, he'll get the spot, if he doesn't, well its Arnotts, i aint givingthe 2nd line c for first half of the year and 3rd line c position for the rest of the year to a small non physical prospect who hasn't played in the nhl... he'll need to take it from Arnott

How the hell are Arnott and Doan at all comparable?

I hope we get both. Not one or the other. We have a hole on the wing. We have a hole on the 3rd line.

Arnott would be a decent sign. Hoping it's Doan though, but Arnott would be a very nice consolation prize.

When we move Luongo we will have more than enough capspace

5MM + 2MM for Doan and Arnott.

Arnott will be good competition to have with Schroeder.

On a 1 year deal I don't see how Arnotts contract would matter.

This only makes sense is if Luongo can return a top 6 player or a top 9 player.

Doan + top 9 player from Luongos deal or Arnott + top 6 player from Luongos deal.

My die-hard, season ticket holding Blues fan friend had the following to say when I asked "does Arnott have ANYTHING left in the tank?"

"Not really. He had a good start last season, but as the year went on he was less and less visible. If yer team just needed him to fill in until Kesler's healthy, then healthy scratch him or have him periodically fill in when other centers are tired/injured/struggling it may work out, though."

that's my take ...i just dont see arnott as an impact player anymore
he's not really a defensive specialist and can't score as much anymore ..footspeed has taken a hit. id look elsewhere unless he's super-cheap and we can put him on a line where Hansen and Higgins will do all the work

Could be fun to see him on the PP.

Yeah, the guy did not have a good outing with the Blues.

I think I'd feel more comfortable with Schroeder as the 3rd line center.
Arnott really doesn't have much left in the tank. And yes, he is huge, but he isn't physical and he's pretty slow.

And there is no way we sign both Doan and Arnott. Too many forwards signed, no room to sign an 8th d-man (which the team likes to do).

Decent fallback but I'd much rather have Doan.

Definitely fallback.

But it's not always easy to waive a magic wand and get younger bigger better.

He's plays decently big and can still pull the trigger occasionally.

better not be more than a 1 year deal. don't believe he can play a whole season anymore and won't be effective unless in a limited role.

I wouldn't mind a 1 year deal at 2 million or less. He adds size to the table along with a cup ring, I know he's old but it's good to have people who know what it takes to win.

Like you said said yesterday; it about the balance.

After making those comments in the season's end presser Gillis will inevitably get roasted by some every time he acquires someone who is neither young or fast.

Nothing to lose if it's a 1 year 2M or less. I would only be happy with Arnott if Doan does not come here.

The two would fill different roles. Doan would obviously be signed as an impact, top-six forward. Arnott would be a bottom-six/third line type guy. I would be in favour of the signing as he'd bring experience and size to the center ice position, and he has some offensive touch (even if it's more sporadic than it once was). Depending on the terms of a contract, I wouldn't be upset with this type of move at all.

Dude still scored 17 goals last year. And it's August 1st, not July 1st. He isn't going to be looking for a homerun deal, I'm sure we could get him on the cheap. I understand the need to not have two 35plus players signed, especially since Doan'll be wanting a multi-year contract, but it shouldn't cost us much at all, and will be both insurance for if Shroeder isn't amaze-balls right away, as well as someone who will challenge Manny, Lappy and Shroeder to be the best they can. I'm sick of our recent giving players spots before they've proven the deserve them. What happened to Gillis' previous approach of having everyone earn a spot on this team?

I wouldn't mind Arnott... IMO even though he's slow he's a more versatile fit than Raymond. Over 50% on faceoffs, more take-aways than give-aways... but very few hits.
