I think Manny can bounce back this year with a full off season for training/conditioning

But it's always nice to have depth

Not sure how this turned into a Manny hate thing, but he does very well for the completely ludricuous minutes he gets. He almost exclusively starts in the defensive zone yet produces more than nearly all 4th liners out there. He isn't quite in his previous form but still very good for us.

he's the caucus 4th line centre.

Crosby would be trashed if he was the canucks 4th line centre.

We're going to cut off Mason Raymond's lower half and attach it to Arnott's body.

SUPER FAST HUGE GUY!

Called it! Odd...he doesn't really fit our teams design. Mentor for Kassian or Jensen in addition to 3rd line duty?

Not really. Manny is basically just there to win face-offs in the d-zone then leave the ice. With his eye he can't do much else now... but he can win faceoffs.

There is a difference between Arnott and Sturm. Arnott was an all-star caliber player in his prime, a stanley cup champion, and over all a great competitor and leader everywhere he has gone. I personally would rather Arnott's leadership to Doan's.

I was speaking more of their playing ability. Both are too slow to keep up with this team. I think people overrate leadership/ good locker presence qualities of players. This is especially true for this team where leadership and accountability is at a high level just not playing ability. Leadership is somethnig that should be emphasized if this was a younger team with rookies, not one filled with veterans.

I agree that leadership is often over-rated, but it should not be entirely discounted. I don't see Arnott getting anywhere near as much or as long a contract as Doan, so less risk. As well, he can fill in as a 2/3 center and provide veteran back-up in case Schroeder/Gaunce can't show their ready. I also feel that playing on a line with Higgins and Hansen we would see Arnott's lack of speed minimized. He won't have to lead the rush, but can follow in as the trailer and set up in front of and behind the net to help with the cycle. His ability to cycle down low would also help our second power play unit and allow it to have more control.

Its probably due to not having an off season to train.

And some sort of prosthetic heart, to make up for the one he lacks in his chest.

have you watched Doan at all lately?
he is not slow
he will score more points than anyone but the Sedins, maybe Kesler
he'd be like adding a vet Linden, which would be good

If the 'Nucks really want a veteran centre, I'm sure the Leaf's would trade you TWO (Connolly and Lombo) for someone overpriced and unwanted ... how about Luongu?

Sounds good to me.
Just so you know, the Canucks don't have the cap space to do that without shedding some $3M of salary or so.

Sorry no. We're actually interested in good centres.

And I greeted the news of the Canucks' interest in Arnott with a resounding "meh". Okay, he's got all the veteran boxes ticked on his CV, but Blues fans last year weren't exactly singing his praises. I keep hearing things like "too slow", "used to be good" etc etc etc. Stuff like that. Signing Arnott if we missed out on Doan would be kind of a booby prize imho.

There are worse options, but this guy shouldnt be counted on to play a full 82 games. Decent PP contributor, but he is really, really, really slow at this point.
