Vancouver - Chicago (Lu, Edler, Kane, Hammer)

This got a little traction the last time I posted it, and I think it deserves its own thread outside the Luongo epic because it includes Edler as well.

Luongo
Edler

Kane
Hjalmarsson

Chicago gets a great #1 and a 3rd #1 D, loses one of their core players in order to get much better in net and on D.
Vancouver downgrades at D, upgrades big at RW, and goes with Schneider in net.

How far off is this in terms of value? Would it require a signed Edler?

The value is good, but Edler being a FA at the end of the year makes this deal lopsided for Vancouver.

I think Edler would resign with Chicago

From a neutral perspective, my first thought is that Vancouver still needs to add a piece. Maybe a decent forward prospect to offset the loss of Kane somewhat?

Not worth it for the Canucks, as it leaves us a huge hole on defense and we wont have any really good offensive d-men.
It also improves Chicago much more than Vancouver, which is something rivals don't do.

However, I'd be open to do Luongo+ (lesser players/prospects/picks) for Kane or Hossa.

Brace yourself. The homers are coming.

Edit: This is a deal I would've done had the Canucks offersheeted Weber and some miraculous way we got him for 4 firsts. Now that it's no longer an option. I don't know how I feel about this deal considering we don't have any other dman that are smooth offensive minded skaters on the team or in our system.

Way too much from Vancouver.

Hjalmarsson doesn't have a lot of value. He's a 5th defensman.

While the deal is good value-wise and Chicago needs a #1 goalie I don't see these 2 dealing with 1 another.

Canucks would have to add whether or not Edler was signed imo. A signed Edler would just mean it would be a smaller +.

The hawks hold the poker chips in this deal, even if the value is fair at the moment. Theres very few suitors for Lou willing to pay a decent price, and the longer the Hawks wait the better.

Imo Edler (no extension) + Booth + Loungo for Kane + Hammer + 3rd would be closer.

Somewhat surprised by everyone saying VAN adds. It seems about fair valuewise due to different contract issues withg Luongo and Edler, but it is definitely the Hawks this helps out more needswise. Keith/Seabrook/Edler/Oduya/Leddy are pretty sick top4 options and they really need to get something done in goal. VAN gets Kane who could be a nicve playmaking winger for Kesler, but Hjalmarsson doesn't do much for them, really.

Terrible for Chicago. Hamhuis instead of Edler and I'll think about it. Edler is not a #1D.

I see him as a 4th, a good-not-great second pairing guy, but maybe I'm wrong.

I disagree with you on that. On Chicago's D he isn't maybe, but on quite a few teams he is.

The fact is, Chicago has had 3 top dmen on the team before when they had Campbell. the type of dmen they need is a defensive guy (like Hjalmarsson, but can clear the front of the net). Leddy maturing would help immensely. They for sure need better goaltending, and a 2C who can win faceoffs and preferrably stand in front of the net on the PP (that guy comes at a premium). Kane's PP output has gone down significantly without a traffic guy.

Don't make a trade for the sake of making a trade.

Luongo's 10 year contract balances it out.

Kane alone for Edler and Lu would be overpayment.

Make it Sharp and Hammer for Lu and Edler.

Kane would be exactly what the Canucks need alongside Kesler and while Hjalmarsson wouldn't be needed as the team stands now, if they were to move Edler he'd be an option in their top 4.

I wouldn't do this trade.

Edler = Kane(admittedly assuming Edler resigns long-term wherever)
Luongo>> Hjaalmarsson

Not interested. Kane is great, but Edler is key. I understand the contract issues, but I believe he gets re-signed in Vancouver and soon.

Kane > Edler
Luongo > Hjalmarsson

I don't know. If we had a better D pool I'd definitely do it.

Considering that Vancouver shouldn't have a problem extending Edler I don't think it's good value for the Canucks. Kane will put up more points than Edler but the black hole he'd leave on defense would probably hurt the team's offense more overall. The Canucks already have 3 Kane-caliber players in the Sedins and Kesler, but there's only 1 Edler.
