I'm asking it in a farcical way, but I actually am curious if the fans from any of those teams would be in favor of their teams submitting an offer sheet.

If someone was willing to go 6mill per for a decent term, does Montreal look to sign-and-trade, or take picks as compensation? I'd imagine they match offers up to the 4 first rounder compensation range, agreed?

One thing you can bet on tho, Habs will not go for more than a 2 year deal.

Habs sign all there players to 2 year deals after their ELC

Price, Patches, Desharnais, Eller, Daiz, Emelin, Weber, all got 2 year deals.

I'm guessin Subban would want a 4 year deal, to eat up all his RFA years, but Habs would be dump to do that.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Every other player in the organisation got a 2 year or one year deal after their ELC... why should Subban be any different.

Price signed 2 years at that amount and once that term was up signed his multi year multi million dollar contract.

Subban should accept that this is his first contract, prove that he can play consistent hockey and improve his discipline and earn his multi year, multi million dollar contract just like every other player in the team.

If not, we hopefully get an offer sheet from TO or EDM and end up with their 4 first round picks!!

I've felt a fair deal for Montreal (as a Hab fan) was 7 years @ $39 million or $5.571 cap hit. That would be a little less than Markov makes and should keep everyone happy.

I can't see Montreal not matching an offer sheet, almost no matter what. A trade might be different but still unlikely. I guess it depends on what our management team thinks of Subban and whether they want to get fired so early in their career as Hab management.

Probably not a good idea to lowball him at this stage. I'd start out with a more realstic offer as these lowball offers can sometimes create bad feelings and come back to bite management especially when the player is one of their key long term players.

I think the hit is fair...7 years is a long deal though!

Subban deserves a Hedman type of deal, but I understand why they don't want to see him turn UFA and thus offering less than four years. Either it's two or three years, or it's around seven imo.

I wouldn't offer sheet Subban. I am not opposed to offer sheeting, but to get to where Montreal wouldn't match, we'd need to give up 4 first rounders. I'm not sure Subban is worth that kind of money, nor do I want to gamble on losing a lottery pick and three more picks for Subban. God forbid, if the Oilers end up in the lottery again, it could mean Seth Jones, and I'd take him over Subban straight up long term. The only guy I would have been okay with the Oilers offer sheeting would have been Weber, as he is already a proven Norris nominee and arguably the best defenseman in the world.

I think the best case scenario would be a 3 years contract @ 4,5 per

Subban should be looking at 5.5 at least. If Matt Carle can get his contract, then Subban can get a massive contract on a short term.

I don't think that there is any way a rebuilding team like the Isles or EDM could justify risking their next 4 first round DP's on an offersheet.

A team like DET potentially could justify the risk. The problem is that IMO - Subban doesn't make the Wings a serious Cup contender like Weber did for the Flyers. It's worth the picks if you think it puts ou over the top, and I just don't see that with the current Wings team. Maybe all the young kids contribute immediately, but I think it would be a bad move on Holland's part.

If I was more confident in his ability I would give him the 4 years he wants but definitely not at 6M per.

I don't actually think the money is going to be the main issue, its going to be the term, with the rumour that Subban wants a long term deal.
Letang got that coming off of a 27 point season in which i highly doubt he played the top opposition. Subban is far ahead of where Letang was, or even Johnson. With the cap being higher now too, Subban should be looking for more he's better.

I think Subban is going to want to get paid on a longterm deal. The incentive for him to take a discount is only if it takes him to the end of his RFA years. Even then he's going to want to get 4-5 in the very least. I bet he wants 5x5.5 or something like that. He's got to believe he's worth more than 3.5 as it is, let alone as the years go on. With the current cap an average player on a cap team gets paid 3+ million, Subban is much better than an average player.

...2.75 per year?

That rumour is incorrect. The offer wasn't for that amount.

Yeah . He wants to play in Boston with his brother , So he will not sign to eat up his RFA years . Plus a low offer is a slap in the face and will probably make him bitter towards the team

There were some Habs fans that said they wouldnt trade PK for the 1st overall this past draft. If a 1st overall has a cap hit of 3.975 million why wouldnt PK be worth at least that. It seems Habs fans highly overrate him when it comes to trade offers, and then do a 360 when people speculate what type of contract he's worth.
IMO he's worth more than 2.75-3.5 million over two years.
