Abreu optioned to AAA Dodgers affiliate for Victorino. 2nd time in their careers that Bobby's lost his job to Shane

Reflecting on this a bit, the Shane trade was good since we weren't making the playoffs and apparently weren't resigning him. Pence...makes less sense. From a $$ standpoint I get it, but from a competitive stand point we're getting rid of our youngest all-star caliber player, would rather have held on to him.

My gf's dad made an interesting point...that we traded 2 of our worse players at plate discipline and that it could be addition by subtraction. I also heard something that either quoted or speculated that Pence was unteachable and refused to listen to Manuel or any of the other coaches. If so, I know why he's gone.

I'll wait until next year to make judgment. If they take this roster into next year it'll be more of the same. If they have something big planned, then I'm happy. But this is definitely a year+ turnaround set of moves.

I was surprised he didn't get the start actually, but yes, I haven't watched a s many games over the last week, but I definitely will watch more just to see Dom Brown and whether he can be what he was always projected to be.

Only reason Dom didn't get the start yesterday is because his flight from Syracuse was delayed. He'll play everyday from here on out, and I hope it's in CF. I still like Bown; thought he was finally coming around last season just as the Pence trade was made, which torpedoed his confidence and stunted his development.

I expect him to be very good as well and we'll need him to be the prospect he was touted to be next season in order for us to compete.

Simply not enough talent in free agency next year to seriously fill more than 1 outfield slot.

I agree on Pence, but I also didn't realize how bad he was in the field. He's a solid player but he's not a particularly difficult out in the middle of your lineup which just compounds the problem using him before or after Howard.

Is this Tommy Joseph legit?

Schierholtz is having a good debut. He is going to be a decent player, and I found it interesting today to hear Charlie say that he may play some CF (as he has never played it before).

I had free tickets to this game but couldnt get off work.

Ugh.

I actually drove by the stadium on my way home because I was going to get standing tickets...but the sky is looking ominous. Storms in the area.

Double Ugh.

The sky looked pretty sweet when they showed it on the TV. Had a nice pink tint to it from the sun and all I guess

Yeah, most of the sky looked awesome tonight. It was the huge storm clouds approaching from the SW that made me decide not to risk wasting money

WASHINGTON - Carlos Ruiz hobbled Wednesday through the visitors clubhouse at Nationals Park nursing the plantar fasciitis in his left foot, the latest peril of catching. He was not in manager Charlie Manuel's lineup.

"There's nothing you can do," a perturbed Ruiz said. "We'll rest it one day, come back tomorrow, and see how it feels."

What?

Me too. But until he feels confident in someone in close games late besides Papelbon to go 1-2-3 in an inning I'm sure you're going to be seeing more of this.

I dont think Pence makes that play. Schierholtz is a good defensive outfielder who's power will multiply by getting out of At&T and playing half his games at CBP.

And then the old pinch hitter/runner combo. 2 more players.

Are the Phillies aware they're supposed to be worse after these trades?

But how good is he at swinging at pitches in the dirt, intentional balls, and new balls thrown from the ump to the pitcher? Can he do those things as well as Pence?

Brown went 0-4, but was great defensively. Nate surprised me with his game.

if the phillies make the playoffs, i wonder if pence and vic were the problems for this team or the trade deadline?

...there is no way that you were both the most negative poster about the Flyers and the most optimistic about the Phillies. I call shenanigans.
