Part 2: What "Lifer" would you want on the Flyers?

Let us try this again since my first attempt at this got taken the wrong way.

The thing that brought me to post my question was:

The buzz around players like S.Weber, M. Brodeur, D. Alfreddson, Shane Doan, etc... having certain events transpire, where they are likely to finish off their careers playing for just one team, and one team only.

All of this happening this off-season brought me to the actual question or proposal:

Out of all the players who have spent, or are presumably going to spend their entire NHL career with one franchise, which one would you have liked to have spent it with the Philadelphia Flyers instead?

Not sure that the player you're thinking of is an actual "lifer"?
Just look it up, wikipedia usually hits it right on the mark.

Here is the list of players that I have been able to find. They are all in an appropriate category, but not in any particular order.

I will constantly edit (until I no longer care about this thread lol).

If a player that you know FOR A FACT was a "lifer" or somebody that I missed in the other categories, that is a noteable player and should be mentioned, bring it to attention and the appropriate action will be taken to add him.

- - -

List Of Notable Retired "Lifers"

- Mario Lemieux
- Steve Yzerman
- Joe Sakic
- Nicklas Lidström
- Jere Lehtinen
- Mike Richter
- Henri (Rocket) Richard

List of notable non-retired (could be) "Lifers"

- Martin Broduer
- Vincent Lecavalier
- Steven Stamkos
- Sidney Crosby
- Jerome Iginla
- Daniel Alfredsson
- Alexander Ovechkin
- Shane Doan
- Shea Weber
- Tomas Holmstrom
- Henrik Lundqvist

List of notable NON "Lifers."

- Mats Sundin
- Ray Bourque
- Scott Niedermayer
- Mike Modano
- Zdeno Chára

Honorable Mention (FLYERS ACTUAL LIFERS)

- Bobby Clarke

- - -

Now Let's make this a little more interesting!!!

Do you have your favorite retired or non-retired "lifer" in mind?

1 - Remember the "lifer" you just thought of.

2 - Now think of your all time favorite Flyer player, "lifer" or not it doesn't matter.

3 - Would you replace your favorite Flyer, with your noted "lifer" from the list?

For example:

- Your favorite "lifer" that if you had your way, would have been a Flyer lifer instead, is Mario Lemieux.

- Your favorite all time flyer is John LeClair.

Would you swap out all the favorite memories of LeClair, send him to the Penguins, and replace him with Lemieux (as a Flyer lifer)?

Can't wait to hear responses!!!

EDIT:

The constant talk seems to wind up being about how Lindros, Forsberg, Giroux, (coulda-woulda-shoulda)

I think it's pretty clear:

We all wish Lindros would have been a Flyer "lifer" but he wasn't.
We all wish Giroux would be a "lifer"

So let's get that out of the way and can we just follow the simple rules, and think outside the box please?

Eh why not just discuss players we wish played in Philly regardless of how
Any teams they played for.

Even tho Lindros played for 4 teams he spent a lot here and still wish he spent it all here, healthy. I firmly believe if he stayed healthy he'd be one of if not the best ever. Dude was complete

Giroux needs to be a Flyer Lifer.

Laperriere SHOULD have been a Flyer Lifer

Would have been nice to see the Flyers hold on to Forsberg in the Lindros trade, both of them stay healthy, and both be Flyers Lifers. Dominance from 1994-2007.

am i doing it right?

That was te plan accordin to jay snider. What could have been....

But if Lindros stays healthy, that trade evens out more no?

But Lindros and forsberg. Wow. Probably means we don't trade for LeClair and hold on to recchi longer (who knows) but I'd take that trade off.

@TheDrizzle81:

Umm, I brought this up as an idea because of all the 2012 off-season action regarding:

- Weber most likey going to be a Predator for life after we struck out on him.

- Brodeur deciding to stay in NJ.

- Alfredsson adding another year to Ottawa.

- Crosby signing an extension to possibly stay with Pittsburgh till he retires.

- Lidström retiring after 20 seasons.

- Shane Doan mixed up on if he wants to leave Phoenix or not.

The fact that all of these players have never played for another team, is what brought me to do this so if you wanna talk about your all time favorite Flyers, then go ahead and start your own thread on that subject but it's been done before.

I'm just trying to be creative and start a new kind of thought here, that's all there is to it.

Nah just omit Forsberg for another piece. I wasn't following hockey, and certainly not prospects back then (I was 4), was Forsberg a MAJOR piece at the time?

Then let the chips fall as they may (Recchi/LeClair trade, etc.)

Just tryin to understand. But what about guys who spent most of ther career on one team then became a beach ball at the very end. Kinda like Gagne? Even tho he's on his 3rd team he's been on one forever

Or is that the purpose of the non lifer list?

LOL yes that's the purpose of the non-lifer list because that's the list of players who people MIGHT have thought were "lifers" but actually weren't

Players that no doubt have played for more than one team don't really belong in this discussion unless they are a favorite FLYER of yours and you want to do section 2 of the question.

I'm sorry if it's confusing guys but I tried to the best of my ability to make it simple

There are very few players who spend their whole career on one team, which makes it difficult

Quebec made Forsberg a major piece. Kinda like "we want him or no trade". They wanted to include Brind'amour instead of Forsberg. They insisted on Forsberg. I imagine Forsberg just replaces Brindy as the 2nd center and Renberg plays with 10 and 88. With maybe Forsberg playing on the pp with Lindros?

Sorry if this derails your thread. I love these what if topics.

I was going to say Bobby Orr, but he played for Chicago at the end of his career.

Lemieux would have been pretty neat.

Seriously though, Mike Richards was supposed to be mother****ing Bobby Clarke 2: Bigger, Badder, and Uncut. Paul Holmgren is like Coach O'Reilly in D3, only he traded Charlie Conway to whatever far away team Bombay was coaching. Oh, and shipped Adam Banks to the Cougars for Keenan Thompson. He's a right handed shot!

Oh and Gee Germaine ran away with the hot teacher from the second one. I didn't care for him much though.

We are the Hawks. Paul Holmgren is:

I'm sorry, I know this isn't under the guide lines. Nick Lidstrom seems like an obvious answer in my book, and painful as it is for me to even fathom, Broduer would have won at least ONE cup here, right?

Edit: Yes, Homer is both unlikeable Mighty Ducks coaches.

You didn't say which of your favorite Flyers players you'd switch Lidstrom and Alfredsson for

Martin Brodeur: The Flyers would have won 4-5 Cups with him in net. I would easily switch him with Ron Hextall. (The players and your criteria however should have to come from the same era. The overlap of their careers is only 6 seasons. You might want to try that in Part 3 of your thread)

Mike Bossy > Timmy Kerr

And petty as it may seem, it's Maurice "Rocket" Richard, Henri "Pocket Rocket" Richard was his little brother. Proofreading, a thankless but necessary task especially when it comes to the greatest goal scorer in league history.
