With Butler saying that they expect Mark to compete for a spot in September I'm thinking somebody is on the way out of an already solid defensive group.
We had 7 defenceman last year playing regular minutes, mind you Brenden Miller got a lot of extra time after Spencer Abraham went downin the 2nd half of the season.
Personally I'm hoping this means we trade a defenceman as part of a package or something to get some more veteran offense on this team, its really all this team is missing for a deep run in 12-13.
Hopefully this weekends mini camp will be the time they can sign those early picks from this years draft as I do believe Brampton is the only team yet to sign their 1st round pick.
My Hunch is Spencer Abraham and or Jordan Auld will be moved. Can't go four years with the same defense in this league. Abraham may have undercover value, he missed half the year this year and although didnt start well he showed alot of promise in his rookie year. Bottom line they have there top 4 (Blujus, McIvor, Bell, Wind) and cant have an 18 or 19 year old in Miller, Abraham, or Auld in the stands every night. One or two young defenseman need to be brought in. No Auld at rookie camp, not sure what is up with that but he has been consistent in two years.
I agree, I think you see at least one of the current D men, possibly two get moved before the season starts so that Raycroft gets a spot, not to mention I thought Wood looked pretty good at camp.
I also agree that McIvor, Blujus, Wind and Bell are the core of this teams D, you cant move any of those guys. I'm thinking among Abraham, Auld and Miller whoever gets the most return will be moved.

I can't see Miller being moved because that would leave to many holes for the 2013-14 season with wind gone, Abraham, auld, bell, goodrow, macleod, foglia all OA elidgable. My guess is Abraham and Auld won't be OA's. Auld may just be going to school. My bet is Abraham will be moved, too bad I liked him. Watched mini camp and his skating ability is amazing along with some sweet hands and good hockey sense. He would benefit playing in a more offensive system. He has top 4 skills but I don't think the opportunity for him to play a ton is here in brampton. Auld is a steady eddy yet there isn't room for that here. Hopefully something will get done to bring in more depth up front.
The 2012-13 Schedule is out.
Home and season opener is Fri, Sept 21st vs Niagara.
First two Sunday's of the season the Troops are actually on the road in Sudbury and Oshawa.
Mississauga makes their usual visits on Thanksgiving day Monday and New Years eve afternoon (also a Monday). The new years eve game is he 2nd half of the ONLY home and home of the season, as they will play in Missy the day before, so thats 3 Sunday road games.
Family Day Monday will be in Ottawa this year at Scotiabank Place, the other game at Scotiabank will be on a Tuesday night in March.
Both trips to Belleville this year are on Wednesday nights.
All three road games against Barrie take place by late November.
The northern swing is a bit backwards this year.
It starts on a Wednesday in Sudbury, off on the Thursday, in SSM Friday and Saginaw on the Saturday with no game on the Sunday.
The Windsor/Plymouth swing are on the usual nights in early January.
Only 4 Saturday games all season long and obviously all are on the road.
Nov 10th @ Barrie, Nov 17th @ Saginaw, Dec 1st @ Niagara and Dec 15th @ Owen Sound.
Only two 3 in 3s during the season.
Nov 9-11 vs OS, @ BAR, vs GUE
Nov 30-Dec2 @ GUE, @ NIA, vs KGN
The 1000th regular season game in Franchise history will be at home on Friday, January 27th vs Niagara.

I was wondering if I could get a scouting report on Andreas Tsogkas and (if you've seen him) Michael Mastrangelo. Both are showing on Saint John's protected list now.

Masterangelo- Big, bad skater, bad hockey sense, bad hands, very strong and very fit but very limited skill. Suppoe to be a good fighter but never fought with brampton nor showed toughness. Bad pickup by aint john.
Tsogkas- Skille and smart, average skater and hasn't really been given a fair chance in brampton. Would be more suited in the Q and deserves another shot.
I have a strong feeling that Carrick is going to be in Brampton again this year, with a real focus on the offensive side of the puck. The Marlies are full of capable C`s with Aucoin, Zigomanis, Colborne, Acton and others...I don`t see Carrick as somebody who should need to play ECHL campared to a Crescenzi or Devane. So I really do think we will see him back.
Read an article about the Stadium lease issue in the brampton guardian. It looks like the team wants money for upgrades (dressing rooms, scoreboard ect.) as well as revenue sharing from food and suite rentals. The city is willing to help and everything should be settled by the end of august. And if nothing gets settled there are 2 other offers for the battalions to move
It breaks my heart. I have been watching these guys for 15 years I remember the day my dad and grandpa brought home tickets for their first game.
It is a shame that a city as large as Brampton (Even if it is full of immigrants) can't find enough people to support a local major junior hockey team. It is despicable. The bunker should be packed every game, no excuses.
Was on the Battalion site and noticed a few things on the roster page.
First of all Clarke, Amadio, Paul and Raycroft are all already listed on the main roster, I was expecting all these guys to make the team anyway but I guess its pretty much official. No numbers picked yet for these guys though.
Nick Foglia is listed as #37 which was his number in Ottawa, not convinced he will wear that in Brampton as no player in Battalion history has worn anything higher than 35, and no skater as worn higher than 28.
As lastly and probably most important. Carrick and Lane are not listed what so ever.
Now I wasnt expecting Carrick back at all, but does anybody think there is still a chance if there is an NHL lockout?

These names were all removed from the website yesterday, but i did receive word that Paul did in fact sign with the team.
Yes Paul has signed with the club.
I've been told by a source that when a player signs an education contract that the OHL wants these players in their database, the roster on the Battalion page is a direct link to that OHL database hence why they showed up. The same reason why Foglia still is #37, I've been told he wont wear 37 in Brampton, what you see on the roster is his Ottawa database.
Now that all being said I still expect Clarke, Amadio, Paul and Raycroft all to make the team this year. Raycroft is obviously replacing Auld who has left. Meanwhile I heard an interview with Stan Butler where he pretty much said that he doesnt expect Carrick or Lane back, there is plenty of room on this roster up front for Clarke, Amadio and Paul to slip in.
The current roster only has 8 returning forwards plus Foglia. So you have space for another 3 forwards easily. I've heard Brennan Feasy may get a regular spot, havent had any word yet on Geoff Bezruchko though.
Also according to Stan the backup job to Machovsky will probably go to either Taylor Welsh or Jake Smith, just in hearing him talk about them he seems higher on Smith but I guess camp will decide who wins the spot.
Any updates on the arena lease situation? Isn't the deadline tomorrow? Will the team move if an agreement isn't reached very soon?
Meh. Boring team, poor location that should have been in the north end where people live not in 'technically Brampton but really Mississauga industrial park'. Too easy to watch on rogers tv, especially on the wallet.
As per Sean Lafortune Former Waterloo Wolves defenceman Kyle Wood has signed on with the Brampton Battalion. He was the Battalion's 3rd round pick this year.
