What Would be Your Bizarre Strategy for the Predators?
It's the off-season, and Im bored. Post your craziest idea that would possibly help the Preds. It can be coaching, personell, marketing, front office, anything. I'll get us started.
Imagine we're halfway through a PP, and our 2nd unit is coming on the ice. Ellis and Klein jump over for D, and for forwards, on come SK, Legwand,and.....GILL!
Hal goes straight to the front of the next and doesn't move. All he does is screen, tip, and annoy the hell out of the goalie. With him on one PP and Hornqvist on the other, keepers will HATE playing against us.
I think planting Gill in front of the net could be interesting in terms of screens, but I wouldn't expect him to be very good at deflecting shots into the net. He'd probably try to block them out of habit
Nashvlle hosts the DRW. Tootoo gets confused by psychics in the stands and fires the puck at the Detroit goalie for a score. Toots gets into a fight with Zetterberg over the own goal! They are both ejected. Nashville beats Detroit again.

I see you are a fan of Claude Julien using Zdeno Chara to screen at the front of the net during their PP's...
It does open up space for the rest of the forwards to work and creates traffic in front of the opposing goalie. Depending on who we have out there, if we have the skilled personnel to work the ensuing 4 on 3 (Gill takes up a man in front of the net), it might work out.

You never know till you try something...
I actually hated that, because Chara was their best point shot. That'd be almost like us putting Weber there. The idea is having Weber shooting with Gill in front...
Another suggestion, though losing Suter hurt this one: Move Ellis to winger.

I'll admit, I didn't watch much NHL hockey outside of the Predators last season, but thought that Julien used Chara as a net front guy on PP2 and a point man on PP1 or vice versa keeping him out there for 65+% of the PP much like Ovechkin does in Washington.
I could be very wrong though...
As you mentioned, I think Weber blasting away from the point though is a major downside to anyone besides Hornqvist standing in front of the net on our PP.
Lastly, from a coaching perspective, I think it depends on personnel, but Gill is a guy that is likely to be out there on the first shift after a PP playing against the opposition's best. You could see this in a limited capacity depending on the situation, but I think you'll likely see Trotz roll with Gill-Klein as the D pairing following most PP's next season. Weber, Josi, Ellis, and potentially Blum or another D (to be acquired - another conversation) would get the majority of the time at the points on the PP's.

If Blum doesn't make it and the Dman we bring in is defensive, I would love to see SK play point.

I would too to be honest...
However, I've already heard from a lot of fans that are knowledgeable cringe when that's brought up.
Sergei has played on the point on the PP growing up in Belarus, in international competitions -> including the Olympics, in juniors for the London Knights, and in Montreal. He has also not looked out of place while taking Sully's spot on the point last year.
Kostitsyn loves to throw a solid hip check when he's playing defense. He skates hard to the middle to make sure he's ahead of the play, then angles the opponent to the boards using gap control before throwing out his hip and separating his opponent from the puck.
I think he'd be a good option and don't doubt it will be explored again at some point next season.
I think from a marketing and chairitable standpoint, for the first Minnesota and Detroit games, no bashing cars with sledge hammers but have a big bon fire on the 5th ave. side and for a donation to the Preds foundation you get to burn all the Tootoo and Suter gear you want.
Have Gnash fall from the gangwalks mid-game, he's tangled from his tether and fires his air horn. Opposing team looks up, Preds rush in and score.
Or instead of having Gnash riding an ATV, have him juggle Swedish meatballs. Half the Detroit roster turns the other way and runs themselves into the endboards. Subsequently, handing us the division title in 2013. Good? Great.
If only the official Preds boards weren't complete junk...
