I'm thinking once all 30 teams are spoken for and then confirmed ill allow teams to negotiate but all trades will not be official and any team can back out of a deal at any point for any reason. The reason for this is the not every gm will be as active now as they would once it starts and there are real life nhl moves that still can happen before the league starts that can change a gms decision making. So negotiate all you want but it is within your right to back out of a deal with no repercussions at this point. Fair?

Yeah but it's still better than that week before free agency begins thing. At least it doesn't have a reminder. You still need to be smart about staying under cap.

Also in the off season u can sign and be over the cap then work ur way down. You can't go over the cap during the season so if that guy u try to extend has a new contract that puts u over the cap u can't do it. Or u make trades at the deadline which is part of the fun and being a GM.

Good point. We'll stick with this idea unless anything else is thought of.

I think we will need to find a way to deter gms from putting bad contracts in the minors. Maybe a cap on player salary in the minors? I think we are going to run into a problem with teams bedding for players in the offseason knowing they can bury contracts. Now, I understand this happens in real life but I think if we aren't enforcing team budgets (allowing teams to spend to the cap) essentially any team can do this now and it will likely be a very common thing.

Maybe any player making more than 1.5M must be bought out or traded.

I dunno, in the dynasty thread you can really see where a lot of people don't re-sign their fringe guys and guys who aren't performing. Plus, trading UFA rights is super fun, and that's not possible without at least a re-sign period prior to free agency opening.

Also, that exploit is really only possible when trading with AI to get top prospects and high picks. Much harder to get a human to agree.

I expect to see a lot of offer sheets

Anybody else trade for #1 and #2 draft picks every year just by trading picks 5-6 years later. No more of that lol

McCaber, are these preventative measures you're proposing based on experience playing other games and encountering these problems? I don't have any such experience so take any of my comments with a grain of salt.

Yeah it's way too easy to build a top team against the CPU. This will be much harder - nobody's going to trade their 1st for an over-the-hill vet or 3 randomly selected B- prospects.

My personal favorite exploit is the old offseason "sign a bunch of random undrafteds, then trade them in packages for 1st round picks". Never fails, especially to teams working with elite RFAs (who therefore still have cap space). Plus then you can offer sheet their RFA knowing you just sent them too much salary, and a lot of the time you can even trade back for your picks using the same exploit.

Also no more randomly trading a pick for the one right before it for no reason.

Hey guys I think I read somewhere that you can't re-sign players during the season so if that's the case we will need different rules for UFA's.

I'm looking forward to slowly rebuilding Colorado, I think it will be a fun challange while still have some good pieces to work with at the start.

I say we all coach our first game of the season. But be in the same live party as the person your playing so you guys can be talkin smack and laughing at the cpu the entire time. I feel like coach mode is gonna be very laughable if u do it with other people and very boring if u do it alone IMO.

Apparently if you hold down the A button it tells your players to shoot so we can see what we make out of that lol

Apparently you don't draft in gm connected it's auto drafted but you submit a list of all the players you want and it tries to get them for you.

The only thing i hate about that is there is no in draft trading. As long as the CPU picks the players I want then i'm happy.

My friend wants to play if that's possible.

He'll take any team left, and his GT is MotoExtreme.

Also, I'll have to think a bit about trading Tarasenko

I've played in a few leagues and there's always ways to unfairly manipulate the league but there's always a line between being unfair and just being smart. I'm just trying to think ahead here and make it as fair as possible to everyone in this league.

Yeah, I read about that. Taking away manual drafting kind of takes away the need for in-draft trading, I guess.
